I have a 1976 SF-4, made in Westerly, RI.My Dad was the only owner, he bought this new the year I was born(1976). my Dad recently passed(4-20-08)and this was his Favorite Guitar(he left me 5 of them, all which are different),this being his Baby, I need to know more about her.She is Blonde, inside tag says Westerly Guild and the #'s.I've been to a few sites but it is listed as a starfire 4. Mine says SF-4 BLD. Does anyone know about her? How many were made?I have never played,so it's even more important for me to learn about his beauty. Thanks Julie I figured I would list the others,Thanks to everyone.

The other guitars are
Fender 12 string
Fender 6 string
Fender strat
Lark Bass

Hi Julie, I see you found us here!

I was going to direct you here when I answered your e-mail to me through my web site. I guess don't have to now since you found us on your own.

What little I can say is that SF stands for Starfire and BLD stands for blond and it's constructed of laminated maple.

If you're lucky, Hans, Moust will stop by and possibly be able to tell about how many where made.

Hi Jul...sorry to hear about your dad, but I think you know there is always going to be a little piece of your dads heart in that Instrument. It would be so cool to have it kept in the family, right down to the grandkids and the great grandkids. Hope you do get some personal enjoyment out of it, and there is a huge collection of both wisdom and frivolity on this site, mostly made up of very special people, who do go out of their way, to be of help or encouragement. Stick around. We'd love to have you as part of this group. (not to mention that most everyone here would like to get their hands on that guitar, if only under the guise of giving you a 'lesson'. We're just an appreciative bunch when it comes to Guilds (and goils) Regards Steffan

Yes. Welcome aboard, and sorry about your dad.

That's good that you want to learn more. Your dad would approve. If you have a chance, we'd love to see some pictures of your Starfire as well as the other guitars.

You've come to the right place. Happy Thanksgiving.

welcome from germany and sorry about your loss.
the starfire 4 is not a rare but one of the most versatile instruments made by guild.
the were built from 1963 to 2003 when I remember right and the SF-4 was the standard model. the SF-5 had a bigsby and the the top of the line SF-6 more bling. over the years many small changes have happened (woods, hardware, size, pickups but it always have been a great guitar - it was guilds answer to the gibson ES-335. there is also a SF-1, 2 and 3 and more answers will be given in the "The Guild Guitar Book" by our Hans Moust.

Hi Julie

Welcome from England :D I'm afraid it's mainly old geezers here  I echo West's question - are you wanting to play the guitar :?: Not great for the fingers but can give great satisfaction (plus a lot of frustration) if you do :)

Hi Julie, sorry about your dad. I intend to pass along my Guilds someday, your dad left you with a special treasure. I don't doubt that Starfire was his baby. What kind of music did he play?

Anyway, welcome!

Welcome aboard, Julie.

I lost my dad a couple months ago, but this website has been a great source of comfort and diversion as feelings get back to normal. I echo the wishes of others here to see pictures of your Starfire 4. That's a great model; very versatile and popular. Hope you find all you need to know about it here at LTG.

Post well. Post often.

Hi Julie, and a big welcome here from Newsyland.

How lovely that your Dad left you that treasure. I do hope that you learn to play..... I rather suspect that you will. Within a very short time, you'll be a lot better than I am !

Why not buy yourself an inexpensive Guild acoustic to take lessons on ? Inexpensive, in the case of Guilds, doesn't mean "cheap". Every Guild represents a lotta bang for the bucks. There's a huge pool of knowledge here to drink from if you're ever looking for guidance.

Oh yes; how about a photo. of the two princesses....... Guild gals seem a little shy about "revealing" themselves !

Take good care,

Gary.
