I inherited a Guild Mark VII and am having trouble finding info on it.

I'm not positive, but I think Hans Moust can confirm from his serial number lists whether this guitar was completed in 1966 or not (last CF number for 1966 was 128, so I think I'm reading this right).

Welcome. Stick around - nice folks around here.

The above-mentioned Mr. Moust wrote the book (literally) about Guild guitars. His writeup about the Mark VII says:

Mark VII Custom
Introduced: 1968 (special order)
Spruce top
Premium grade rosewood back & sides
Ebony fingerboard
Inlaid rosewood bridge
Extra long 26 1/4" scale listed

Check out some of these threads discussing aspects of the Guild Mark VI, Mark VI special, and Mark VIII over on the UMGF:

The serial looks like a CG, not CF, although it is hand written and hard to read.

^ :) Welcome to the world of Guild labels, JBCookie! :D :D Hans' book only lists "CF" for the Mark VII (starting in 1966), but I too am unsure what that letter is on the label.

Welcome to LTG! That is a great entrance you made!
Maybe you can post a picture of the back in the meantime, I'm sure it is nice!
Also since CA to CF were used for the Mark I to VI the CG prefix would make sense for the Mark VII. An interesting guitar for sure!
Keep us updated! We love seeing pictures and hearing such stories.

Way to make an entrance! How did you come to inherit it, if you don't mind my asking? These guitars were generally only used by professionals and semi-pros, as they're not the easiest guitars to play. You've probably noticed that the action is pretty high, but that's the way the pros like them. Hans should be able to tell you all you need to know about these, and I see that @GardMan has already pointed you over to the discussions at UMGF. There are some real heavy hitting classical players over there that hold these guitars in very high regard. We'd love to see a photo of the back, because most or all of these were made with a special 150+year old Brazilian rosewood stash that Carlo Greco kept. Good luck with a super rare and special instrument, how id you come to inherit it?

Unfortunately, I do not play. It was my Dad's and he was it's only owner. He played folk back in the 60's and 70's and then played bluegrass and country and went to steel stringed guitars, but he hung on to this one. He never played pro, just a hobby that he got paid for. He was 6'6" so he had very long fingers and I remember him playing Greensleeves on it when I was a kid. ❤

Gosh, that is beautiful, JB. With your dad as the only owner of it, I sure hope you intend to keep it in the family as an heirloom. Your dad obviously kept it in great condition. As you can see, any questions you have about it are all lots of fun and detail here.

I hope Hans has more info for you on that beauty! Best wishes!!!!

He did damage it putting in a pickup and I remember a story about him dropping it in the airport and crying lol) but I do intend to keep it, the memories are priceless.

Hi, and welcome!
As you know from the responses, your guitar is very special in its own right, in addition to the memories attached to it.

In my part of the world, any Guild classical would be very rare, but a Mark VII is like a holy grail!
I was lucky to find my Mark V, a few steps below yours but still an excellent instrument.

You should learn to play it!
