At work I deal often with "bonus children" and their "bonus parent."

Whereas I feel comfortable with the flattering "bonus" terminology for my daughter-in-law, I can't say the same for my mother-in-law. You are lucky, Joe...

: )) I could certainly refer to my present mother in law as my "bonus mom". She reminds me a great deal of my mother who passed away 10 years ago.

Don't think twice about it. When it comes to what I've heard regarding mother-in-laws, ex-mother-in-laws, and ex-spouses your remark doesn't even make the top 40.
