I am not sure the difference but I walk say it’s not a thick finish I posted a photo of the guitar overallDoes your guitar have a gloss finish? Most D-4's are satin finish ("HR") but there are examples with a high gloss finish. Those labels include "HG".
I would say it has a high action but I am leary about getting it worked on. Also I want to do country style songs and maybe some other if you couldn’t tell by now I am a beginner!Welcome! Stick around - nice folks around here.
Much love for the D-4. Post a photo of the label and you'll get the definitive answer.
I suppose... A really, really bad one.Could be an R.
The story was it was a one owner and he bought it out in Southern California and worked his way up through Washington doing small gigs and street work with it buying his way north from there he worked his way through to Wyoming and down to New Mexico where went to Florida from there. (Bought from said owner)Looks like a good one! No idea on the "HU."
It's a sloppy "HR" for "Hand-rubbed" finish:The story was it was a one owner and he bought it out in Southern California and worked his way up through Washington doing small gigs and street work with it buying his way north from there he worked his way through to Wyoming and down to New Mexico where went to Florida from there. You may able to drop the action a little bit if there's room to sand the bottom of the saddle.I would say it has a high action but I am leary about getting it worked on. Also I want to do country style songs and maybe some other if you couldn’t tell by now I am a beginner!
I definitely like the sounds of it with a pick. It tends to be a sharper clearer tones. Also it is a nice one as it nearly never needs tuned agian. I am interested in a “better one” like a D40 but I have to do some researchYou may able to drop the action a little bit if there's room to sand the bottom of the saddle.

That's a good guitar for "country style songs" - my wife has a D-4 and it has the right tone for strumming cowboy chords with a pick.
Enjoy it.
