A Morgan Monroe 5 string resonator. I play a lot with a country/bluegrass jam. We are guitar heavy, banjo light. We have fiddlers, mandolin players, bass players, and one banjo player that may or may not show up. I found out that I've been doing forward rolls on the ukulele for years. It should work just about the same on a banjo. It does actually, I tried one out. I got the bug and the banjo comes tomorrow. Save the banjo jokes, jealousy won't get you anywhere. I know deep inside you all want to be banjo players too.

I would like to make it clear, while I have the banjo bug, no banjo will ever take the place of my Guild D-20 in my heart. My Guild remains my most beloved instrument. ;) It will be fun though.

Haha! You betcha! I had a longneck Regal, I think it was, back in my uni days, and more recently picked up a Washburn openback. You motivated me to break it out and do a little banjo pickin'. Fun!

Almost bought a late 20's gibson 6 string banjo (guitar really) a few years ago at an estate auction...but it was missing some parts and figured what it would cost to make it whole would negate getting any deal on the thing so I passed. I really wanted it though. Wound up just getting a semi decent resonator instead. Not the same thing, but it gets me in the ballpark of adding some "plink" in the mix when called for. I know this site has longstanding jabbing at banjos and accordians. I for one, have love for both. :giggle:

Good on you, Roland!
A long-time folkie friend plays a long-neck Vega. It definitely contributes to our overall sound (in a good way).
Our informal folk group had 3 banjo-playing members at one time. Two have departed, but we were quite loud back then.

Last night among the participants at our music class recital was an elderly student who played a banjo.
While tuning up he made the self-deprecating comment on the instrument by quoting Mark Twain who said,
"A gentleman is someone who knows how to play the banjo, and doesn't"
Not an opinion I share, but a funny quote nonetheless.
