hi folks,

i have bought a STANFORD PDS 10* two weeks ago.
i must say, after testing this one and comparing it to my GUILD D25, the PSD 10 is a far better guitar than the D25.

i have put the same strings on both guitars (Elixier .11-.52 nano coated rust free) just to make sure to have the same parameter for both gutars.
to my ears - the PSD 10 sounds better, feels better, plays better than the GUILD D25, no matter which style i play.

my decision is to stay with the STANFORD - that wil be my first choise guitar.

*for those who don't know, the STANDFORD PSD 10 is a dreadnought guitar desingned by FRUCH and made in asia. it is a very close copy of the MARTIN D18. featured solid sitka spruce top, solid mahagony back & sides, one pice mahagony neck, open vintage tuners. highgloss body satin gloss neck. rosewood fretboard & bridge, bone nut & saddle. black binding around top and the back of it.

Always interested in good guitars around here, we also have Larrivee fans, as well as Ibanez so we aren't entirely close minded....but I don't think we see too many in this part of the world, unfortunately....Steffan

No worries Ike. I like Guild because they can usually compete with all of the other top brands in terms of playability and tone, but for a lot less $$$$. It doesn't mean they win all the time. The important thing is that you have a guitar that makes you happy no matter what the brand. Life is too short to play something you do not enjoy. Even if you sell the Guild, you should stick around here.

In rereading the original post, I do have a couple of comments. Wow those strings are light, especially for a dread. Have you considered putting .12-.54 or .13-.56 on the D25? To me, it seems that a guitar with as deep as a body as the archback D25 would shine with heavier strings. It still may not sound better than your new Stanford, but it may sound good enough for you to enjoy playing.

Next, your new Stanford is a bit different than a standard D18. The D18 has straight braces like your D25. Your Stanford has scalloped braces. A very nice upgrade.

I agree I would at least try a set of 12-54 or even 13's before getting rid of the D25.
It will make a noticable difference.

Don't be sorry. I'm happy if you're happy.

I'll admit to ignorance when it comes to Stanford guitars, because I had never heard of them before this morning.
I enjoy starting the day learning something new!

Cheers,
Joe

Nobody wins all the time.

Also, and I know I'm jumping on the bandwagon here, but I'd never expect a D25 to sound good with 11s. It's a dread, and a heavy one at that; and it's straight braced. In fact I have a friend who uses 13s on his and it sounds incredible . . . but I'm not man enough for that.

Though with all that said, I'm glad you found a guitar that speaks to you . . . because that's really what it's all about.

Enjoy your new love!!! If you were in the US, I'm sure you could find a quick LTG buyer for that D-25.

Another fantastic Asian acoustic is Blueridge. I have a Blueridge BR160 with solid rosewood back and sides and a solid spruce top. It put an end to my D28 lust. I love my '75 F20 too, but it's a different animal.

Ike,
is your D-25 in need of a neck reset?
How much saddle is left?
I also agree that it will sound better with heavier gauge strings. Try a set of Bluegrass gauge strings on it.

By the way, I have heard some very good reports about Stanford Guitars. I unserstand that they are very hard to find in the USA though.
