I was in The Great Divide Music Store in Aspen Co. a few years ago.
The owner said that Martin was starting to use hubrid wood from trees grown for them for the sole purpose of guitar making. I don't remember the type of trees that were used, but they were new to me.
Does anyone here know what I'm talking about and is anyone elso growing hybrid trees for their guitars?

Can't comment on hybrid trees TMG, but Maton in Australia are using some interesting alternative tonewoods..........

Not as far off as some people think.

Here is a photo of a telephone pole farm located not too far from here. Takes quite a bit of work to get them started growing straight and to prune properly to prevent the arms from interfering with the wire support.

I suppose this may seem primitive, but there certainly was a very large demand for these at one time.

Dunno and how come only telephone poles grow there but no grass? Looks like some kind of environmental 'uh-oh' zone ...

They're focusing on the poles. Growing grass would just add another layer to costs and maintenance. Sheesh. :?

The pole farms are here in Ontario in former tobacco fields. Since the smoking isn't good for you anymore, we'll still sell it and make millions in tax dollars off of it but you can't smoke anywhere in eyesight of a non-smoker thing, most of the farms had to either start growing soya beans or telephone poles.
