I took guitar lessons with Steve Hatton at Howard Herbert's around 2001-2002. Steve played a black Godin during lessons, so from his recommendation my Dad got me a Godin SD from the shop for Christmas. It's still in great shape and still my favorite. The smell of the case still instantly transports me back in time.

Hi Joe. I do remember the black Godin that Steve used. I had a Mahogany Godin that I used in my studio That I loved. It was quite heavy as I remember.

@Robert Herbert, my Grandmother Theresa Prescott learned guitar from your Dad at the Frankford Ave store! I played clarinet with Frank the teacher for many years. I think Frank taught clarinet, flute, saxophone and violin? Do you recall Frank's last name? I was wondering if he's still around. He was older when I was his student (1987-1993-ish).

Interesting that he left the bracket on the guitar but had the pickguard removed!

And the guitar according to Hans was serial #14000 ! EDIT: See Hans clarification in post #32 below.

Which would have been built by United Guitar Corp. in Jersey City, N.J..
But look at the fancy unusual binding and an even more unusal neck with rectangle block inlays on that scroll model.
The Premier model had a sqare fretboard end. And that pickguard without controls is also special, so not sure we look at a floating pickup here, that is something else there we see. Look at that horn, that is not the Premier scoll size. So I think we need to think about a different guitar model here. It seems to be a deeper probably hollow body archtop? I have no idea what it could be.

No, the guitar in the ledgers was a repair and it may or may not have been Howard's personal guitar, but since it was serial # 14000, it would have had a cherry finish, transparent G-knobs and a black switch mounting plate!

Hi. I do remember your grandmother Taking lessons from dad. And I’m pretty sure I remember you. Your name is Matt? I think. Franks last name was Myrick. I’m not sure if that’s the correct spelling. Sadly Frank passed sometime around the mid 2000’s, he was one of my favorite people. Always a gentleman and very nice. He basically watched me grow up, since he worked with my dad since the early 50’s. my teaching studio was right next to Franks studio. It’s good to hear from you. Hope all is well.

I am entering this thread really late but it was mentioned that Howard Herbert owned Guild Starfire II serial number 14000. I am shocked to say I own this guitar!
