Being a young guy, do you find it challenging to teach “old English”?
This is an old subject Balderdash, that we've hashed and rehased before many times. But the thought of it is tricky to determine. And using language is how we do that. So being snarky to an old friend who knows how to phrase questions so they can be answered.... is offensive to me. If you don't like his content, then just leave it alone. But you challenge and I'm offended by that. So maybe think about saying "sorry" or something. Attacking long standing and revered members is not a good thing. Okay?? 🤠

Tom - text is a limited communication medium which does not allow for tone of voice or facial expression (there may be an emoji that would have helped, but that doesn’t matter now) which are huge parts of how a message is received and opens the possibility of misinterpretation. ABSOLUTELY the last thing I would ever consider while participating in LTG would be anything approaching offensive. It was not a challenge in any way. I was not attacking anything at all. I did not challenge or “attack”. Period. The entire purpose of my “old English” blip was to input a dab of humor by suggesting that the adjective “old” could be applied to ”English” in that sentence instead of to the speaker as clearly intended. Absolutely nothing more. It didn’t enter my mind that anyone would have taken it as even a hint of assault on the content. Since it did, I dearly wish that I could go back and not touch the “post” button. I will be more careful.

And now back to the subject at hand since the disruption is over.

GAD just needs to add a place in the Member's Profile were you enter your number of Guilds. Then he just has to write a program that would add all these up and spit out a total somewhere. As you add or subtract Guilds just update your number!

That could work, but would only be for those folks who enter a number and keep it updated. So, GAD's program would also need to show the number of people that reported guitar totals. For example, LTG total guitars = 525 for 34 members. The actual member names can be kept anonymous. Or a registry can be set up like we did for G&Ls: http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/AUTOREG/autoreg2.php3

With a possibly humorous post ask yourself a) is it really that funny? and b) is there someone out there who won't see the humor and possibly misunderstand? Almost all the blowups I have to moderate come from a post where the poster never asked those questions or got the wrong answers..

I guess I need to just go an lock the thread here https://letstalkguild.com/ltg/index.php?threads/guild-count-thread.151736/ since way too many people want to post here instead of revive it and this is not something I want to invoke BAD GAD (it's not a tuning) to resolve.

This is actually a pretty good idea. People who care can edit and update their profile and others can ignore it. Modifying the software is more difficult than it should be if we are going to modify it but since this is a read only operation there are workarounds that can be discussed by GAD et. al.

It's easy enough to add a field to the user profile. I don't know if I can make it visible. I could script a report for a total, though.

GAD has been busy. The Location in your Profile is now displayed under your Avatar. It's optional but if you fill it out other people might find it helpful.

Also if you go and edit your profile there is a Guilds Owned field. You may fill it out and it will also be displayed. Your Mods (by which I mean GAD with help from the Peanut Gallery) are working on a way to add all of those and display the result.

Note you may have to enter a membership reason until @GAD realizes the question should only be Mandatory for new members :)

There is no way to make it mandatory for only new members. :)

And this overwhelming desire for people to know inconsequential numbers of stuff.... I'm really not sure what value it has. I know, that's probably just me, but..... c'mon. How many participate and how many don't and who cares kinda thing, so what you get is gonna tell you what?? You have to wonder......

Sorry you felt that you had to delete it. Having a father-in-law who is a grammar policeman I thought it was a very clever and funny response. Something I might have said myself.

How (big is yours) many do you have? When I showed my daughter’s boyfriend (18) my new drone, his first question was, “How fast does yours go?”

Boys will be boys. :)

Seriously, it’s a way for people to look at the ridiculous numbers some of us have and think, “Wow - I’m not so bad after all!” Meanwhile Some us think, “Hmm.. is this really cheaper than therapy?” :)

All n good fun.
