That was really good!

However...

What seems to separate this board from all the others, is that Lines #5, 19 and 20 are rarely, if ever, experienced here.

And I am glad for it!

Right on the money, Bill!

Q: How many psychiatrists does it take to change a light bulb?

A: Only one, but the light bulb really has to want to change.

Q: How many Slobbovians does it take to change a light bulb?

A: Five. One to hold the bulb and four more to spin the ladder round and round.

Very good. But at LTG there would be at several posts about how the light bulbs made by General Electric in Schenectady, NY were somehow better or different from the GE bulbs made in Winchester Virginia and at least two posts about how the brand and product has suffered compared to the days before General Electric acquired the Thomas Edison Light Bulb Company. And there will be some misguided soul who wants to use the GE logo because they are proud of their light bulbs and has to put up with a painful discussion of copyright law. And we must not forget the folks who keep finding the same light bulb clips on YouTube, posting them as if they were new and never mentioning the model of the light bulb in the title. And the first and only post from someone who has a light bulb for sale or wants an opinion of its value.

Gee. When my dad worked at One River Road, Schenectady (but hey, he was only there for 22 years so he may have missed it) I thought they just made swirching gear? Possibly it was before 1951?

I was pushing the truth envelope but I had a very good friend who worked somewhere in the area and was doing light bulb R&D. The lab may have been in Niskayuna and I freely admit that I knew there was one person here who might catch me on GE history.

Which reminds me, there will be at least one poster who used to make light bulbs at GE and is now doing something else.

Which actually leads to a serious observation - there is a lot of discussion about the brand in addition to the expected discussion about the product.

Niskayuna is residential (except for maybe the Noles Atomic Power Lab, and the RPI Fieldhouse).

My oldest brother lived "on The Hill" (Hamilton St. tenements) in Schenectady (after we were grown). His landlord also worked for the County, or maybe the City, so every lightbulb in his place was a 68watt clear bulb as used in traffic lights (circa 1969)!

Probably best you can hope for will be an extremely faded blue. ButT you might be suprised and see it actually bleaches out and leaves a reddish base to start from. Lots of these dyes actually have several elements to give the color that's seen. Another issue may be if it's synthetic it might have the color IN the plastic fiber and may not really bleach out at all. In fact it'll probably just break down if either of the bleaching treatments is too strong. If you do get a successful leach out of color you still need to know what the fabric itself is, to choose an appropriate dye that will actually "embed" itself. Again if it's plastic (polyester) it'll probably require something other than your everyday RIT you can do in the kitchen sink.
I saw a product recently advertised for re-coloring interior vinyl, but I think they just installed new carpet for color matching and I got a suspicion that may be what you'll need to look for, ie, new interior cloth. Hope you're not thinkin' headliner.....
nope, just door panels. would never have a burgundy (or any other semi deep color) headliner. lesabre has a burgundy headliner that has faded to orange. everyone thinks its custom.
the door panels were originally a deep dark blue, but have faded to a light blue (mostly) in 23 years just from sitting in a car. from what I've seen in other cloth panels, dark blue can be sun bleached (granted it takes about 10-15 years of sitting in a car that sits in the sun constantly) to somewhere between light grey and white based on what i have seen.

This is a funny coincidence.
At the Bill Staines Concert last Wednesday, I helped change a couple of bulbs, to get better lighting for the show.
Someone in the audience asked, "How many Musicians does it take to change a light bulb?
I answered, "It takes three.
One to change the bulb, one to hold the bulbs, and one to write a song about it!"

Ahh ... I'm pretty sure the RPI Field House would be in Troy - on the RPI campus, wouldn't it?

And those RPI students are probably trying to find better ways to change light bulbs.
