I have two Guilds I am wanting to sell. The year didn't matter to me before so I didn't make mental note and I was wanting to know if someone could tell me by their serial numbers? One is a D55 Westerly #AD557920 and the other is a D40 Bluegrass Jubilee #TJ124002. If anyone could tell me I would greatly appreciate it!!!

Thank you so much Nigel!!! I thought the D40 was a 2006 but couldn't remember. I had bought it new a few years ago but the D55 I had bought excellent used and can not for the life of me remember the year it is.

Welcome. Feel free to stick around even if you do sell.

This is the source of most of the Guild serial number dating information although there are inaccuracies.

Hello Becky and welcome to the site. And by the way, I've got a daughter and son in law in the medical field in Springfield.

Chart is not easy. If the serial number has letters as a prefix and the label has a model searching on those two often brings you to the right place. If the serial is all numeric then you have to find the years when all models were numeric. And of course if it is after some point in the 1990's the number won't be there anyway.

I think it's a late 90's model. And it should be illegal for companies to do that crap, some stuff just works better with standardization. :?

*sicker* Stick around long enough and you will find that standardization was not a big deal with Guild. There are numerous examples of instruments that left the factory with something other than catalog specifications. So, of course, the serial numbering scheme is going to change.

Back on track, as a late 90's it probably won't be in the chart.

I'd invite you down to Texas, but it's been colder than a cast iron commode seat in the Klondike down here too. They're freezing in Springfield and ready to move back to Texas.

Spring will be here before we know it. 7 or 8 weeks here and things will begin to green back up.

I hope so west. I need to do an engine swap and I'm not doing it in the crazy MO winter. who decides that its gonna be 25 and ice cold one day, 60 and humid with a chance of tornadoes the next , then back to 25? I think God's up there with a dartboard for the MO weather forecast.

Hello beckym,

You already have the manufacturing date for your D-40.

Your D-55 is a 'classic' serial number mistake, which didn't happen that much but over the years I've seen similar cases.

I looked at your photos and noticed that the actual serial number of your D-55 is not #AD557920 but #AD551920.
The serial number on the back of the headstock is the correct one. The serial number written on the label was copied from the back of the headstock but obviously the worker who wrote the label made a mistake.
Anyway, your D-55 was made in Westerly, RI during the year 2000.

Good luck with the sale!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Sort of reminds me of Texas on the abrupt weather change Kevin, only not quite as cold and a whole lot stormier in spring.
