Months ago, I booked my Bluegrass band for an outdoor gig this afternoon. Little did I know it would be the hottest day of the year, the forecast is calling for 96-97 degrees F with humidity in the 75% range. UGH! Fortunately, we'll be in a roofed shelter, hopefully there will be a little breeze. We will be bringing fans.

Me too. My band is playing a biker benefit outdoors in College Point Queens (in a CVS parking lot!!) today. We go on at seven, so the worst of the sun will be over. But it will be some sweaty fun for sure.

My band did 3 gigs in the same week a few weeks ago. The first 2 had nice weather but the last one was hot.
At one point in the show I started to sweat enough that it got into my eyes.
I couldn't stop playing to wipe the sweat from my eyes.
They were stinging something fierce.
I had to close my eyes for most of the song and I sure was happy when it was over, so that I could wipe my eyes.

Have a great show Dred and be sure to have a towel with you on stage.

Hey Mad Dog,

Where are you playing at, and for who? If I can free up early enough, I`ll jump on the scoot, and head over. Nothin` like 1340cc of air cooled engine between your legs on a day like this........

So sorry I missed this post. Internet went down at work, so I wasn't able to get back to the list yesterday afternoon.

We were at 132nd and 14th street, in the CVS parking lot. Lots of Harley's there. Great crowd, really nice people. It was a real pleasure to play. Nice breeze by the time we went on.

Not a great night to ride in NYC ...

Well, things worked out great, there was a nice breeze so it was actually rather comfortable.
We played two hours of kick-butt Bluegrass, I spent the majority of time on the mandolin which is my main instrument in that band. Played the trusty ol' D-25M on a few songs though.

My fiddle player and banjo player are really outstanding - all I've got to do is give them "the look" and they take off on instrumental breaks like nobody's business, what a blast! We did some recording last night, I'll try to post a sample later.

Bluegrass is made to be played outside on a hot day. Glad everything turned out so well, Dread. Lookin` forward to a sample.

No problem MD. Let us know next time you`re in Queens or on Long Island and I`ll try and make it. Speaking of hot gigs, my cousin is FOH sound engineer for the band 311. They`re at the Jones Beach Theater tonight and I`m going to take a ride over there later to say hello, and watch them rig and build the stage. Heat index is supposed to be around 110-115. Not staying for the show though, got my own gig tonight. Indoor and Air Conditioned..........

Jeff, here is a picture of Nick Hexum of 311. Not a bad move for a 41 year old guy! :) By the way, wonder what the sticker is on the back of his Gibson. I don't think it's "STP". :)

To follow-up on 311, Jeff (bassmyf) took some pictures for us. The sticker on the back of Nick Hexum's Gibson is SMP...which I have no idea what that means......perhaps, Sounds of Mass Production (a Seattle-based band)?  :?: Click on the pictures to see a bigger view. :) http://www.youtube.com/user/311VideoVau ... ol9FFONxkg

These are backstage pictures of tonight's concert being played at Wantagh, NY (right in twocorgis' backyard on Long Island) 8) :D
