So, a little due diligence and searching on Izzy from Alabama suggests the possibility that the Martin box might be a joke. I'm sure he has the box and would sell it for that price but it is all about being entertaining and clever and not with a serious expectation of getting that kind of money.

The writing at https://www.theizzymiller.com/ suggests someone who is poking fun at themselves.

Regardless as to whether he is attempting to be funny or not, it is still unethical that he is misrepresenting these common items as something much more valuable and will gladly take some fool’s money for believing his B.S.

I still have the same blue owner's manual from my '76 D25M, it's hanging on the wall in my music room.

The guitar is still going strong, but I'm on my 3rd carry case, LOL.

I guess you didn't laugh when people offered air guitars on eBay either. For me ethics don't come into play unless and until an unspecting or humorless buyer actually tries to make a payment. IMO YMMV

I just looked at the link and seeing his face and sampling his music makes me dislike him even more.

Not being a REVERB seller - a question: Can one put an item for sale at ridiculuos high price - then mark it sold without having to pay comission - or whatever it is called - to REVERB ???

Actually, I had sold a Gibson J45 that I had up on reverb to a local guy who picked it up and paid cash, but he had originally contacted me through reverb, so I (perhaps stupidly) considered it as sold through reverb, and it was marked "sold." Of course, I had to pay reverb their 3% seller's fee. So no, you couldn't get around that.

Reverb is a pain now.

Tell me about it. The never-ending story of the sale of my Martin GPC12PA4 is ongoing. The buyer was originally happy with the deal and gave me 5 stars. Then a MONTH later, she claimed that, essentially, it needed a setup, so therefore it was "not as described" and wanted a refund. Say what?! Initially, reverb said since it was a month after she received the guitar, I didn't have to give her a refund, and I surely didn't. THEN, just recently, this whiny chick apparently convinced reverb to order a $100 refund out of my money! You've got to be kidding me! Of course, I responded to reverb saying this was improper and unfair, especially after I had bent over backwards to please this chick in the first place (accepted lower offer, reduced shipping charge by half when she complained about the tax). I haven't got a response yet from reverb, but I'm not real hopeful. They've got my credit card!

Reverb: seller beware!

Does Reverb have your guitar a pre agreed amount of time that is reasonable? Looks to me like three or four months and it doesn't sell, you should be able to pick up guitar with no 3% charge unless that is their way of preventing an unrealistic overpriced guitar and you selling it out from under them.

This is BS! Virtually every guitar, ESPECIALLY new ones needs a set up to MY preferences. That is SOP for every guitar I buy. I would demand to escalate it. I’d also ask my CC company to intervene with a chargeback was as it was not an approved withdrawal from your card.

Keep up with your "NO" and "YES" answers in your life and you will find the "YES" answers will cause you double the grief as your "NOs."

Cougar, the only thing wrong with that Martin 12 string was that it was priced too low to begin with. But unfortunately they don't seem to move very well right now. But this girl is a PITA, to be sure. How many months does she get to decide? You have rights too. That just chaps my hide........

I almost bought a burst Guild DD12 that had been up there a year! (It was suddenly sold just when I was getting ready to pull the trigger!) You can pull the guitar off reverb at any time with no charge. But they have access to your messages, so if a guy messages you and says he'll buy the guitar without going through reverb to avoid the fee, that wouldn't be good. Up till now I've had high regard for reverb - they offer us a great service, and a 3% fee (or 3.5%, whatever it is) is perfectly reasonable.

Anyway, we'll see how this dispute goes.

Exactly. She didn't actually say "setup," just saying the action was high up the fretboard, and her "luthier" said it would cost money to make right. She cried poor throughout the whole process, which in my mind is irrelevant. When I originally got the guitar, it DID need a setup, which I paid for of course without demanding a refund or partial refund. As you say, that is STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE.

I sold a beautiful, mint, vintage ('94) Taylor 510 'burst lefty on Reverb last year with deluxe hsc, $1,400. Three weeks later, the buyer contacts me and says "this thing is way out of whack, it is barely playable." I told him that it was in perfect shape when I shipped it, and it was insured, so please take it up with the shipper.

Never heard back from him. I sold it on Reverb "no returns."

After 3 weeks, I'm thinking he was just having buyer's remorse. This thing was MINT, and had all the original hang tags as well..

Seeing as that is how he found you/the guitar I think that was fair.

I find this thread interesting as I've sold all my guitars locally save for a few on LTG. I was planning on putting some on Reverb as I had thought it better than Ebay...perhaps not?
