Thanks Dave, what do I need to do so the photo comes right up? I'm not too good with this intraweb thingy!

What is the story on that SF-350? I've never seen one before! Are those three Dearmond pups? That thing must rock!

Walrus-The SF-350 has its own entry in Hans' Guild book. It is in both the black and white and color sections. The book makes an excellent Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzza/Ramadan present. The SF-350 was outfitted with a couple different pick-ups in its short lifetime. I was told when I got the X-175 that it was the one used in the book, on page 174 as I recall. The 175 Deluxes were built with leftover SF-350 bodies. Both guitars are very rare. Hans-if you know production totals on these I'd be curious to know what they were.

That could very well be the case, but the one in the book originally came with a Hagstrom AdjustoMatic bridge and the guitar that you own currently has an aftermarket wooden archtop bridge (or at least the top part). Obviously it is possible that the bridge was changed at some point. Just give me the last digit of the serial number and I should be able to tell you if it's the same guitar.

Serial number for the X-175 is 22**9. The person I got the guitar from lived in the Los Angeles area. Are any production totals known for either guitar? Thanks Hans.

Yup, it's the same guitar! Did you change the bridge?

As far as the production totals are concerned, I would rather not give a number when I do not know the exact number; the term 'educated guess' is somewhat like a swear word in my book. However I can tell you that the combined number of SF-350s and X-175 Deluxes in Cherry that I have in my database approaches 3 dozen.

Thanks Hans, good to know for sure. I didn't change the bridge. I should look for an original or at least an original looking.

I bought my Savoy from Bill Fender of Legato Guitars about six years ago and it came with the two foot bridge base. The top piece was replaced because a potential buyer before me had the original recut and spaced the strings very wide. He ended up not buying and this spacing didn't work for me so I had a new top re-cut by a local luthier. I was curious if Guilds came from the factory with the two footed base, or do you think at some point the entire bridge was replaced? Is there a way to tell? Thanks so much.

Hello Sleeko,

The bridge should not have the two footed base; the base would rest on the top of the guitar over its entire length.
The top of the bridge may have been different, depending on whether it was a Westerly made guitar or one that was done in Corona.

Thanks Hans. Are these full-lenghth bases available? Any idea where to get one? Thanks again. Mine was made in Corona.

Aristocrater, I did not look in the Book first before I posted - my bad! Thanks for leading me to the pages - that is very cool to own such a unique guitar!

Sleeko,

Did you get the bridge from eBay in the above link? That appears to be a leftover Park Ave X-180 bridge from Corona. The New Hartforrd GSR archtops all appear to be sporting the 2 footed bridge base with TOMs. Newark Street are also 2 footed with a mix of TOM and compensated rosewood as shown on your Corona X-150. My 2000 Westerly X-150D has the float rosewood base with the compensated saddle as shown in your pic above. I'd be interested to know how the straight line (but angled) saddle on the one from eBay works out. It appears that is what was shipped on the X180 Park Ave from Corona. Not sure if anything else went out the door that way. Maybe some of those fancy Benedetto (I mean that respectfully) that shipped out of Corona had them too.

BTW, your X150 is simply stunning.

Oh thanks Chris. Appreciate that. Yes, I went ahead and ordered it. If all goes as planned I will be able to swap the gold thumb wheels for my chrome and fit the top piece of my existing bridge onto the new base. Fingers crossed. Anybody try this? Hopefully everything will match right up. Worst case I can have the Luthier re-notch the top of the new bridge. Wish me luck and pics will follow when I get her all done. Good time for new Thomastik strings! :tan:

It's pretty likely the two saddles have the same stud spacing if not you can hog the holes a bit on your compensated saddle. Most are between 2.9" and 3.0". It's not talked about much but I think the Corona X-150(D), X-160, and X-180 are the same 3x16" maple body and just dressed differently. The base you bought might match up quite well with your X-150's top. If not it's a simple matter to work that out. Let us know if it doesn't quite fit.

Maybe we should start a new thread for that since the original post was about very different guitars and matters then we're discussing now.
