Hendrix/Roger Mayer clip (What in heck is Mayer playing?)

What kind of odd-ball Fender is Roger Mayer playing in this clip (around 1:47)? Thoughts?

probably a custom instrument. looks like an explorerbody with stratlike pickguard and singlecoils and a 70's fender neck. similar to the entwistle fender thunderbird bass:

Seriously, I sure wish we could do an image search for a "Fender guitar like Gibson Firebird". Or maybe a left handed Jazzmaster body with a right hand neck....

that's what I said before, as the fenderbird is too. this one also is a "one of it's kind"

Here's a link with a ton of different versions of Explorer guitar bodies made by different manufacturers, but only a Fender Explorer bass is in there.

I did see a Fender logo... I did! I did!

I did too. What I meant was that it could easily be a custom body with a Fender neck. Or even a custom body and custom neck with a Fender decal. I should have been more detailed.
