Hey Everybody! I just came across this whacky gem and had to have it. I went online and I see alot of crazy stuff being debated about this guitar. I don't have a pic right now but I know it's a S200 Thunderbird. It has humbuckers, hagstrom trem, block inlay, MOP bird and guild on headstock. The neck is bound but the awesome headstock is not. The serial number is 42819. I'll get a pic up soon. anyone have any idea?

Hey, if it's good enough for Muddy Waters, it'd be good enough for me!

Hi crazy joe,

Tell us a little more about your Thunderbird. What color? Condition? Did it come with the stock case? Does it look all origional? How much did it cost you? Other?

Tnx,

Well, The body was repainted cherry red, the neck paint is stock and black. The headstock is clean of cracks. The stand works fine. All the electronics are original. I don't think the knobs are original. They look like Fender amp knobs. The action is outstanding and the trem stays in tune no matter what you do. Someone along the way replaced the tuners with Grovers. I tour frequently and I really like playing it plus it sounds great. I just keep seeing stuff on the net that says there were only a few made and they are rare. Does anyone know for certain how many were made? Are these guitars really worth the crazy$$$$$ I'm seeing? I paid $300 cash no case.

Well Crazy Joe...you got one sweet deal for $300. Even beat up TBirds that have been modified and refinished sell for more than $1000. Nice refinshed models in natural sell in the $1500 to $2000 range. I usually see stock Tbirds sell in the $2500 to $4000+ range.

They are great players, are very comfortable and have mojo in the body styling.

Hans Moust is maintaining a data base on the Thunderbirds to obtain objective data on the number made. He will likely contact you for more info on yours. Estimates imply somewhere around 400 to 500 Thunderbirds were made between 1963 and 1967. Variations in headstock (3 different styles) and emblems along with pickups may limit the quantity made in each style in each year of manufacture.

Where did you find this baby? Music store? Yard sale (don't laugh I know of two found this way!)?etc?

Also you indicate the neck paint is stock black. I don't think Guild made black Tbirds so it may have been one of the 3 color sunburst finishes.

I picked it up at a music store believe it or not. I've been doing biz with them over 10 years now and they know their stuff. For some reason they just overlooked this fine bird. I know the body's be repainted but it's not really not bad at all. They must have been to busy to investigate. I really need to post pics because she's real clean. This would be just shy of mint if the body hadn't been painted.I've been playing it now a few days and I can't get it to go out of tune!!!! The body shape makes total sense when you play it.
