Hello All,

New to the forum, just found you guys via another site. I just picked up a really nice, one owner 1956 Guild Aristocrat w/ case. I think this is one of the best sounding/playing guitars I've ever had! Great for Jazz tones, country, etc.

I don't know much about this model - I think it has a spruce top (?) with what looks like mahogany back and sides and neck, and the board looks to be Brazilian Rosewood, I think...any info would be greatly appreciated!

Here are a few quick pics I took - I know the truss rod cover is on backwards :)

Thanks! Does anyone know how accurate Guild serial numbers are? Someone told me this was either a '54 or '56, but I'm not sure...

Welcome Lux. That's got to be the nicest Aristocrat of that age that I've ever seen!

Is that TRC original? I've never seen one like it.

Try looking at it upside down. (Alert the TRC police!)

Right you are Chris! Just did a google image search, and that is the OEM TRC, just upside down. Were these only used on the Aristocrats?

Hello Lux,

Welcome! Guild serial numbers from the '50s are not 100% accurate but most instruments from that period can be dated by the features. When I look at the photos of your Aristocrat I would say 1956. If you give me the serial number I can try to find the guitar in my database.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

According to The Book, it looks like they were common in the 50's, at least the later 50's. Look at the section on headstocks.
