I guess this is where we say hello!
Scottish dude, lived in France for many years, now I live in Estonia. Massive fan of Brian May, hence the Guild connection. I was saving up for the F512 like he uses, but when I got enough to look into it seriously I learned of the existence of the Orpheum 12-string. The pedigree looked good and people on various forums - including here - all seemed to agree they were something special, so I went for it. My Orf 12 SHRW NAT (or whatever combination of letters the Guild people felt like using that day!) will be delivered in a couple of days. So finally I join the ranks of the Guild owners!
I have a few other guitars and stuff:
Martin HD-35, absolutely beautiful and resonant. I need that kind of responsiveness, hence plumping for the Orf.
Yamaha LL6, it's ok. I've converted it into a slide guitar with a nut adaptor and nice, thick bar slide.
Some nameless 3/4 size nylon job. Plays nicely and I have one of those Aspri echo boxes stuck on it. Gives a nice ambience.
Martin travel guitar. Really quite awkward to play without any body to use as leverage. Never knew how much I relied on vibrating the body and neck about until there was nothing to press against. I bought it as a "random other guitar that will remain in alternate tunings" and so far I'm loving open G. It sounds kind of like a dulcimer with its extreme boxiness. Really nice sound to make you look at things in a different way.
Pygmy Sitar. This is a kind of large mandolin-shaped instrument that has a special bridge to approximate a sitar's buzz, plus drone strings, etc. Very cool but necessarily limited in what you can use it for.
Fender Strat. Nuff said.
Guyton Brian May replica. This was my holy grail since the age of 15 all those years ago. Looked longingly at the Guilds when they came out but was nowhere near affording them.
So that's my troop. Really looking forward to hearing the Orf 12 when it comes. I will post the inside label so we can laugh at how it's different from all the others, again. :-D
