I hear through the grapevine that today is the 70th birthday of one of my all-timers.
So grab your Guild and sing a JP tune or ten and celebrate one of the best of our songwriters.
I have most of his songs in my personal traveling bag. :smile-new:

My all-time favorite, so much so I even named two of my past best friends after him. One was John and the other Prine. Have seen him many times in Milwaukee, Chicago and Detroit area. I always thought he was older than that but I know he's had some health challenges. here's to another 70 JP.

Saw him in the mid-70's in Esbjornson Gymnasium at (what was then) Glassboro State College. Jim Croce, Bonnie Raitt, John Prine, and a local band all on the same bill. I still remember the ascending clouds of smoke with he started playing "Illegal Smile".

Had the honor of meeting a young John Prine at Jean Ritchie's house shortly after his first album was released. I think I was 13 or 14 at the time. That album is still one of the greatest ever made IMHO. Happy birthday, and many more JP!

Somewhere, way back when, we had a thread going where I mentioned meeting JP in a bar/pub called the "Saddle Club" in Old Town, Chicago. He was still delivering mail for a living at the time. I'm thinking this was somewhere around 1972 (?). He was good then, has only gotten better.
