For those who may have never witnessed this I took a couple of photos of the hailstorm that blew through my area (just South of Charlotte, NC) earlier this evening. It caught me by surprise and left one of my cars looking bullet-riddled and another with a smashed (not just cracked) windshield.

Folks, these are balls of ice (Hands, teaspoon, and egg added for perspective)!

Reminds me of an early morning hailstorm that I drove into north of Oklahoma City in my 2-month old Toyota in 1991.
Fortunately, I found the shelter of a freeway overpass so I was able enjoy the show and then drive away....dent-free.

Put them in your freezer for evidence for insurance company.

:) I don't know how it is in other parts of the country, but down here, well the insurance companies pretty well know when there's been a hail storm. :)

It is a good point...

this occurred in South Carolina, where hail this size is just not that common! I would think in Texas it would just be a completely automated claim process, by now. :)

I have great photos, video, audio, everything *except* the hail in the freezer. Saving one of the hail stones for evidence never crossed my mind until I read your post, Tom. Duh! That would have been a very intelligent thing to do. My insurance company said they are flooded with calls regarding having a car that looks dimpled like the skin of a golf ball, so just get in line.

:) Really not trying to sound like a "Johnny Toppitt". About 20 years ago, we had a hail storm with softball sized hail. At the time, I lived in a log home with a cedar shake roof. With a cedar roof, you don't do decking under the shingles, you do slats. Those slats are spaced several inches apart.

A few of the hail stones went though my shingles, between the slats and hit the upstairs bedroom ceiling. But believe it or not, it didn't break a window in the house. Insurance even paid for the chunks it took out of my cedar split rail fence.

:) Nah, if you moved to Texas, you'd fall in love with more than the insurance Chris.

Yeah, I lived there for 10 years and I can't begin to tell you how many times I fell in love!!
Had nothing to do with insurance, either. 8)
