I notice that it's wearing a leg band....any idea who it belongs to?

Joe

No clue. We put him up on facebook. Quite handsome. Hopefully he's heading home. We live in the country and I don't ever recall seeing a pigeon in our neighborhood. I suppose the leg band could be some kind of nature study tracking flight patterns and such. He looked very well cared for so I'm guessing someone takes the hobby pretty seriously. He just doesn't look like he's been in the wild for any length of time. Might try calling the state to see if they know anything about him. I know they track the bears in neighborhood.

Looks like a sweat scraper for horses... or for getting the shedding hair off of them. I have a gazillion pigeons in my yard.... are they unusual where you live? I thought they lived everywhere.....

Let me guess...... she's a licker too? :hororr:

Only strangers and guests. She gets really excited when they come over and goes to town before we can stop it. Then we just don't have the heart to tell them. Ignorance is bliss.

I just found out there's a Homing Pigeon club in the local area. So he wasn't far from home. I think they have races to see who's birds get home first. Seems ironic that this one decided to take a break at a house full of retired Racing Greyhounds. Maybe he's looking forward to his senior years and he's checking the lay of the land.

Nice pic.
What medieval torture device is it resting on?

That's a grooming tool called a shedding blade. It's got teeth like a saw (not terribly sharp) and it's used to pull dead hair off short haired dogs. The dogs like it cause they get attention and I guess it feels like a backscratcher.
