Mike's SF III thread got me thinking about an SF III Emerald I used to own and I found this picture of 2 since sold guitars I used to own:

It's a '59 T100D and a 1970 SF III Emerald Special w/ stock DeArmond's and block inlays. The green is real tough to photograph, you can barely tell it's green. The finish on it was really bad - there was no lacquer left on areas of the sides and back and I had to super-glue crumbling binding to stabilize it. The case smelled of mildew so badly I had to get rid of it and get a replacement case. I sold the guitar because the neck was real thin (depth) and I found it uncomfortable. It was unique, though.

Hi Jeff, Both look like nice guilds. I believe the green Guild used in the 60s got a bit darker toward the end of the decade. Or maybe some guitars just turned a bit darker depending on the environment it was kept in. My '62 Greenie is much lighter. Though I did have a very rare 1965 T100D that was also very dark. Here are a couple of pix of the '62. The pix were taken in plain room light with no flash and they show basically it's true color. No flash was used. Talk about guitars that have moved on, I should have never sold the Green T100D.

Again this is a maple SF and you can see the grain through the finish just like the Blackstar.

Your SF was very rare as well. I know Guild did use Dearmonds around that time, but have never seen them on a 1970 SF. Mainly on late 60s M75 Bluesbirds.

Here are a few of mine that have moved on...

Here is a 1961 X-175B with a factory original Bigsby. It is now owned by Mbrindell, and as Mike will attest, it is one sweet guitar! I got rid of it as part of a Guild trade, and who knows, perhaps Mike will see fit to send it my way again one day.:indecisiveness:

Here is the amp I got with the above guitar. I bought the two together from a local who inherited them from a jazz guitarist that had moved on himself. I believe Fixit now owns this amp. How is is sounding, Fixit?

This is a 1966 X-175 that I owned for a short time then sold it to one of our own, who sold it in his shop. I do not currently know where this one is.

Here is a 1997 JF-65E that I sold recently to a guy from Florida that was up visiting family in Rhode Island. This was one awesome acoustic, and if I am in a position to get another acoustic one day I will be looking for another like it.

This picture shows four more. From the far left we have a 1991 SF-4 that is unusual as it came standard with gold hardware and an ebony fretboard. Next is a 2000 X-170T, then a 2003 Bluesbird that I gave to my Nephew after he graduated from college with a good degree, but no job. The fourth is a 1984 X-500 that I bought from a shop in Texas, played it for a while, and then sold to a guy from Texas. The last one is pictured above and is a 1961 X-175 that is now with mbrindell.

I also had a JF3012 and a D40, but do not have pictures of those any longer.

I bought and sold two F-50Rs... the most wonderful 6-string acoustics I have owned. I'll try to dig up pictures later.

The good news is that both transaction were almost entirely in the LTG family (except the ultimate sale of "Cap", the '67).

I've had two Guilds that are long gone from the herd. First was a Brazilian D-50, sold around 1974 because I needed a Tele for a band gig-wish I could have afforded both, but wasn't to be. Second was a T100D that I just wasn't playing at the time. Sold it to a friend who promised to treat it right, probably 1980.

PS No surviving pics of either one.

And I forgot to mention the two Guilds I had in my late teens/early 20's...a Starfire V and CE-100D. Both were fantastic guitars, but money was tight and they had to go. No pictures remain.

Check out my facebook page Jeff. There are literally dozens of Guilds that have passed on. Many that I wish I had never sold. www.facebook.com/myguildguitars. And yes, I absolutely love the X175B and I cannot see myself ever selling it, but you never know what the future brings. Should I ever decide to sell it, I would love to see it stay in the LTG family.

Guilds I've bought and sold:

1963 A-50

1965 Blonde X-50 (bought from LTGer guildzilla)

1967 T100D

1997 Starfire IV

1998 Starfire II

2001 Bluesbird AAA with P90's

Unfortunately, no remaining photos. Lots of good memories, though.

Back in the early '70s, I had a nice F-20 NT with the original yellow lined case. It was great. Then, shortly after I bought my '64 D-28, I decided I didn't need two guitars (!!???!?!?)* so I sold it. Then about a year ago, I started getting into smaller bodied guitars, but none could live up to the memory of that F-20. So, long story short, I now have what seems to be the absolute twin of the original. Between purchase price, shipping to me & round trip to N.Hartford for a reset, it cost nearly exactly 10 times what I paid for the first one. But it looks and feels and plays just like the original. I love it!

On a related note, around 1983 I bought a used F-50R. It was a beautiful piece of work, but compared to my D-28, it sounded dead. It felt heavy and acoustically unresponsive, so I sold it. Since I never bonded with it (other than visually), I haven't really missed it. Now, however, I suspect I was using the wrong strings and probably had a poor setup, and wonder what might have been. I guess I'll never know.
