A year or so ago, I started a thread about Guild's New York cases. It incited a raging storm of inattention. But I'll try again.

If there is no "Guild, New York" badge/label, how can you tell if a case could have been used by Guild between 1953-56? I assume they used a lot of Liftons without a Guild badge. But what exterior patterns, interior colors, and hardware did Guild use or not use? Did they also use Geib? Stone? Ess and Ess? Is it possible they might have used some Epiphone cases, at least in 1953?

Here are some cases with New York badges:

Here are some Liftons and other brands with no badge. Which did Guild use and not use?

I don't know what you mean by trainspotting. How do you pot trains? (I was aiming for Enzie humor but I'm afraid I hit Aussie humor.)

I have about 3,000 jpgs of Guild guitars, parts, and cases. It helps me to find out what's original and what's not. With collectors, an original case is desirable, but there's surprisingly little info about the cases that the first 4,000 Guilds came with.

I've got a '53 X-175 with the original case. It's a Lifton like the one below from your album. It doesn't have a badge. In the past I've seen a few other listings for '53 and '54 Guilds that had a similar case. I don't know much about case details, but I could take a picture of it if you want. It's actually in great condition.

Thanks Bo. That exterior is fairly common on Liftons, so it wouldn't be too hard to get that particular type as an original case for a New York Guild.
