Don't "restore" it. I have a t100 that has a lot of surface wear, but thats just part of its story. You don't get a story with new factory guitars. Fun to think about where these guitars have been over all those years.

A setup by a tech with a good reputation (probably not anyone in a big chain store), would be a good idea if you're going to sell it. Make sure the electronics are working properly. Probably need some cleaning if it just been sitting.

Thanks for the advice. It's not my guitar to restore or not, but I'm the only one in the family that has a bit of guitar playing experience. I would agree that the guitar being in a dry environment for decades probably hasn't done it any good. How much would it cost for a tech to do a setup? Any idea what the value would be after a setup?

A setup shouldn't be more than a few bucks, unless there are issues discovered in the process. If major work was required, Tom Jacobs Custom Guitars is our go-to guy. He's in Merritt Island, Florida, so not too far to ship.

I was quoted $225 for a setup. I'm not really sure what all that involves but it sounds like a lot. Does that sound about right? If I ship this guitar, how much should I insure it for?

That is absurdly high for a setup. Usually a setup involves inspection, truss rod adjustment, intonation adjustments (if possible), string height, nut slot adjustments. Should be around $60-100. If they are quoting $225, then I would ask what that includes. If they are including fret leveling and dressing, then that would be appropriate, but if it doesn’t need it, they shouldn’t be charging for it.

My 2¢

Shipping is crazy expensive right now. It will probably never go down.
