1) Does Guilds' warranty cover ....everything...forever?

2)What is the procedure for having a 'neck re-set' done on a vintage Guild acoustic ( '73 - '81 ) ? :|

3)Does one simply contact Guild/Fender and make arrangements to ship the guitar to them with a request to re-set,then wait for them to ship it back?

4)Is is really that simple,or is it quite complex?

Now,if my questions seem dumb or naive, that is because I am,at times.
Overlook the shortcomings...just extend a helping hand to an old guy.

Answer the questions!

If you are talking pre-FMIC, almost certainly not, although individual exceptions can be negotiated. I am not going to search the forum for you  but there are two or three threads from the past year dealing with people who have tried to get warranty service from FMIC for pre-FMIC instruments.

Contact Fender and ask them. Perhaps approaching through a local dealer? Note that at least one poster has quoted Fender as saying no warranty will be offered on instruments from before 1980.

Not if one expects to see the guitar repaired and returned. Contact them, negotiate what repairs will be done, who pays and then let the guitar out of your sight.

Not simple at all. Perhaps you should just buy a post-FMIC Guild because the warranty procedures should be much simpler :)

I have sometimes gone through great effort to answer rhetorical questions and been called humorless as a result. If that is the case here, because you are aware of recent threads on the subject, then have a laugh on me.

P.S.

One thread is here.

I'd also like to express the opinion that, in the absence of access to the legal documentation concerning FMIC's acquisition of Guild, I have to consider the willingness of FMIC to do warranty work on pre-acquisition guitars an admirable thing. You and I may think we know what a "lifetime warranty" is but the lawyers are going to win every time when there is a disagreement between what is honorable or common sense and what is legally required.

RIght. Maybe someone on the forum knows but I certainly do not know what Fender actually acquired when they bought Guild. The acquisition of the name and even the assets does not determine the amount of obligation they took on. For all I know, they may be doing more than they have to as far as covering work on pre FMIC models. Models sold by Fender dealers, regardless of the year, I would expect to be covered to some degree.

Answer to question 1: Simply, NO. Frets for example are a normal wear item. Not covered for materials, only workmanship, ie they don't lift out their slot before they even show any wear.
It sounds like you're thinking about getting a neck re-set. (On your guitar). ( )
The first most important question is are you the original owner and do you have a purchase receipt to verify it? If the answer is "no" then there's probably absolutely no way a repair would be treated as 'warranty' however they may be entirely happy to perform the work for you using properly trained experts, and they will give you a quotation for your approval before work proceeds.
If the answer is "yes" then you may want to review these threads for another original owner's experience:

Those pretty much address all your questions.
Remember "lifetime" means the company's life as well as your own and my personal layman's opinion is that legally Guild's lifetime for anything made before 1995 probably ended when Fender bought them, and Fender's honoring of existing warranties is a courtesy on their part. I don't think they've put an unreasonable limitation on what warranty liability they undertook to honor.
On Guild's website there's a list of warranty centers which, if you're close enough to one, I suggest as a first stop to get a free appraisal of actual condition first. This location can also be the go-between with Guild (Fender) for you. A lot of these guys have been warranty locations for years and know the ropes. Some of them may even be authorized to do the repairs in their own shop, and Guild will reimburse them. Otherwise if you don't have a good luthier reference, and there's no chance of warranty coverage anyway, they'll probably be well-qualified to do the work locally at your expense. That's desirable to avoid risks of damage associated with shipping guitars.
