Hello Tim,

To the best of my knowledge there is no official starting date for production at the Pearl Street factory.
The Guild company was registered on Oct. 24, 1952 but at that time there was no production yet. The start of the company was announced in the April 1953 issue of Musical Merchandise Magazine, so I would say that should be close to the actual start of production.

The same is true for the ending date of production, but production in Hoboken, NJ was started on November 1, 1956, so I guess we can assume that by that time production on Pearl Street had ended.

By the way, that's all stuff that can be found in the history chapters of 'The Guild Guitar Book'!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Sandy, you caused a major flashback. Here's an old (and I mean old!) recording that I can remember my Mom had in her record collection. I used to think it was the funniest thing when I was about 10 years old or so.

But, to tie it in, it's called "It's in the book".

Interesting Dave. It's funny how seemingly unrelated things get triggered by something you least expect.

So, there are a lot of folks on LTG who are interested in Guild on Facebook, subscribe to Premiere Guitar eZine or the weekly Guitar Squid update. While I have no problem with folks who repost info from those sources, I do wish it was easier for me to identify such reposts so I do not read them when my LTG time is constrained. We could add "Repost" to the Subject or we could try and steer all of these things to the existing Links topic or we could just do nothing because no one else cares.

Frono, what on earth are you referring to? :?

Sorry. Those questions were posted by Guild on Facebook a couple of days ago. This is not the first time people have reposted from Facebook or other sources. As I said, not a problem, just an opportunity to make someone elses life easier.

Not trying to be a smart---s, but did they ever put up answers? More to the point, did they have more precise info than Hans? (I'm skeptical that they would, but maybe they found records he never got to see).

Well, if I had known that it wasn't a serious question, but a trivia question from someone who likes to quizz people on Facebook, I would not have answered it!

So, please folks, do not post questions if they're not serious questions!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

I totally agree with Hans. If you're just gathering information for someone outside the community, please be very clear about that when you post.

Please spread that word, folks.

Hello Chazmo,

It's not the fact that the info is for someone outside the LTG-community but the fact that the person who posted the question on Facebook knows the answer already! Feels like a waste of time!

OK, Hans. I don't do facebook, but I sensed your annoyance, and I agree...

While it's not a "rule," I think that questions that people ask by proxy should be clearly indicated. I have no problem with Tim (frettedstrings) asking an interesting, historical question, but if it's relayed from some other forum or facebook I want to know that. Most times people have been pretty clear about that, or pointed us to the source of the question.

I can always rely on LTG folks for the true and accurate data. I have my doubts about Facebook (for guitars).

I say the same thing about Ricksource.com- now that I also own a Rickenbacker electric 12 string since last week. I go directly to the forum of knowledgeable and experienced owners, not the sites of trivia talkers.

Welcome to Guild® Guitars' OFFICIAL Facebook page!

While we can still debate the quality of the information posted by Guild on Facebook the fact remains that it is an official activity of Fender. That said, my sense is that Fender's purpose is brand awareness and not necessarily the dissemination of factual information.

Excellent insight, to which I'll add that there has been considerable criticism here of Fender's marketing of the brand. This would be evidence of a whole new type of marketing, tailored to the demographic most likely to purchase new instruments.
I can't argue with that if it helps keep the brand alive.
