Who knows; part of the fun... These guys Antique Electronics and others sell 4.0 ohm and 8.2 ohm / 10 watt resistors; low enough value to drain hv supply filter caps quickly and double as a dummy load for voltage testing before sound tests. They provide necessary load for output transformer, keep speaker from being at risk of spikes caused by screwups, and kill off the inevitable clicks and pops from hot checking underneath - keep you from flinching .... :wink:
