You got that right, Joe. Thanks for the pointer. Reminiscing about 40 years since Woodstock, eh? So, 2009 recording??

What are ya trying to say Adorshki that all D-40"s look alike? Are you scared to use the "D" word? Come on you can say it......

"Those dirty Dreadnaughts all look alike!!" "Don't you just hate those Dreads?" "You're a Dread? I thought you were one of those sexy Orchestra bodies" Ha ha hahha (all in fun)

Why did'nt you say so, well now, that's a horse of a different color. (I think the guard at the palace said that in "the wizard of oz").

No seriously that is a pretty D-40 and I love the double pickguard.

I'm thinking of doing that to my D-35. Or would that be sacrilegious?

"Religion is the smile on a dog" or at least thats what Rickie Lee Jones thinks.

No seriously I really like the double pickguard look. Is it wrong to add something to a guitar that was not a factory or stock product. I don't care about the value. I like the look. And the protection to the top ain't bad either.

If you flatpick with a heavy-gauge plectrum like Richie, man, you NEED those pickguards. More than that, really. That is one tough playing style for real wood guitars! For most mere mortals, the dual PGs are just a style thing. And, hey, there's no sacrilege with this, but if you're gonna do it, why not get a Richie model!

Dang, that Richie vid is just haunting. Love the guy!

I have that album on cassette. :D
I like the double 'guard look too. Lots of people do it, I suspect it may be Guild's single most common option. On the Havens D40's they shipped it uninstalled so the owner had a choice.
You probably could have ordered a D35 from Westerly with double 'guards, so in my opinion it IS a "factory or stock product".
The one thing to think about is that a lot of folks think it has a negative impact on the top's ability to resonate. I CAN tell you the D40 has the least sustain of all 3 of mine, and doesn't have that much volume advantage over the much smaller bodied F65ce, but that may be because it's a flat-back. I installed the 2nd guard within a month after getting it, so I never really heard it any other way.
Getting a second guard can be as simple as ordering a left-handed 'guard as a prt from Guild, that's all it really is, just mounted upside down. They come as sticky-back press-ons now. Cosmetically, it probably won't be a perfect match for pattern and color, but you could probably get a good pattern match with a little sanding, and I've read that factory installed guards were finished over for a while.

I was thinking that too. Maybe that's why I primarily see them on Jumbos. I still like the look a lot. As far as the new LH not matching the existing what about replacing both? I just love that look, I might just do it on my JF-4.

Yeah second place I ever saw it was on Bonnie Raitt's jumbos.
On your JF-4 I'd investigate what removing the original would involve: finish issues in particular. Some of 'em could be removed with heat to soften up the adhesive, but if it's finished over.....
Also be advised that even though the second 'gard was supplied with my D40, the tortoise shell pattern actually doesn't match the pre-installed one. NO guarantee the right/left 'gards are gonna be cut from the same batch of plastic.
