My Mother's husband of 44 years passed peacefully last Tuesday eve after an extended illness. He was 84 & passed peacefully at home . Fortune smiled upon me as I was there with my Mom when he passed.

He's been ill for some time, Mom was exhausted and devastated. My folks live out on the coast in the small blue collar town of Aberdeen, Wa.

My little Sister came up to help & while reading thru the local newspaper saw the ad for Glen Yarborough Friday nite at the 7th St Theater, in Hoquiam just across the river.

We asked Mom if she'd like to go & she agreed.

Lemme tell ya about the 7th St theater: Hoquiam, Wa is a declining timber town, like many small mill towns in America, downtown is pockmarked with boarded up store fronts. Off the main street a block or so is the 7th St Theater, built in the 20's & operated by a volunteer non profit citizens group. In it's day the 7th St Theater was magnificent, sadly, it's now well past it's prime. Functionally it's still a fine place to play & hear music & apparently the city fire marshall says it's safe.

So, as we take our seats for the show, Red & I are looking over the instruments displayed on the stage. Big as life, right up front is a sunburst Guild F50 with the G Shield, . Turns out she belongs to to Brian Davies, of the Heavenstock River Band.

Glen Yarbrough is 79 years old & when the show starts, to a crowd of 300 or so, it's obvious he made his name as a singer at a much younger age. Halfway thru the show, Yarbough confesses he can't remember lyrics & is using a teleprompter. The band is 100%, A+, talented pros with years of high end experience & are passionately backing the Senior Yarbrough.

Halfway thru the 2nd tune I glance over at my mother, smiling & & singing along, applauding enthusiastically, her trouble totally swept away. Repitoire included songs of losing beloved partners, songs of Grampa, all in all a very touching music experience.

After the show I walked up to the stage, & asked Brian of his Guild & explained the joy the show brought to Mom. Brian graciously let me touch his F 50, she has a glaring repaired crack on the lower bout that detracts nothing from her song.

Jeff,

Did he sing the Washington state song...."Baby the Rain Must Fall?"

*Great story BTW. I know Hoquiam well because I go there every spring for the Grays Harbor Shorebird Festival.

Take care,
Joe
