I discovered him through his work with Chris Whitley's daughter, Trixie (see above).

Cool band! I hadn't heard about this project. I'm a big fan of Daniel Lanois, and it's cool to see Brian Blade playing with him.

I like some of his more out there stuff. This may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I think it's pretty fun. Check it out.

And yes, the Burning Man dancer in the vid kind of annoys me too.

That M-20 (I assume) he's playing reminded me that he also produced Neil Young's "Le Noise" where Neil played an M-20 for several songs on the album. What are the odds they are the same guitar?

Got to meet Lanois and even hang out for a day in his "Studio On The Move" in New Orleans during the recording of the Neville Bros Yellow Moon album. Super talented and super smart guy. I love his signature floaty ethereal production values, but can only take them in phases. Loved his Robbie Robertson album w/ Big Sky Country, and his soundtrack work on the film Slingblade. A lot of his production soundscapes sound like stuff done on synths, but it's usually him on guitars and percussion running through loads of effects, namely multiple delays and reverb.

It's the same M20.

I love a solid 75-85% of everything Lanois has ever done.

His 1989 record Acadie is among my favorites. And the Unforgettable Fire is probably/likely my favorite U2 record.

He's also at least 25% responsible for my love of soundhole pickups on acoustics.
