I've been curious for a long time as to whether FMIC has ever explained why it cannot post a dating list for the last two years of Westerly guitars and for all the Corona guitars. Or whether they have any intention to provide such a list at some time in the future. Would it be that much work?

It looks so sloppy that the Guild website allows someone to track all the guitars made, except the most recent ones, produced under the direction of the current owner of the enterprise.

So, has anyone posted the serial number scheme for 98 - 05? Sorry to revive this, but I haven't seen any change on the Guild web site.

I sent Hans the serial number of my F-212XL he he sent back word that it was a 2001 in about nothing flat. Wouldn't surprise me if he puts it all in Volume II before Fender lets us see it.
I agree with that. Hans also confirmed my 512 was from '02. He is probably having the most difficulty with the Corona years, but I think he's tenacious enough to get it all documented with or without Fenders' help.

Worked for me. I sent him the serial number of my F-212XL and he sent back word that it was a 2001 in about nothing flat. It wouldn't surprise me to find it all in the much anticipated Vol. II of his Guild book.

Graham, thanks for quoting me. I was trying to edit that post and had a glitch which resulted in you being shown as referring to a now nonexistant post, like I tried to pull the rug out from under you. It was purely unintenional. Sorry.

No worries, I had something similar happen to me waaaaaay back with Guildmark. He spent a bit of time rummaging through old posts trying to figure out where the quote came from, that I deleted.

It is frustrating having a number thats just above what's on the Guild charts. Like my D4 is AD407101. Does that automatically make it a 2000??? Label long gone

Generally yes, but if it matters ask Hans.

Ha, ha, yes! Unbelievable!

No to "automatically 2000", no to "generally yes" and yes to Hans. Meaning the serial numbers list published only goes to 1997 even if they say different, and it has many errors for those years, and the only person who has the records is Hans Moust in the Netherlands.
Anyway, what I found is that for instance AD408298 was completed 7/21/2000, so your AD407101 is obviously earlier. But it could be a 2000 indeed, Hans would know if it is 1999 or 2000.

OK. Since I clearly misspoke. "Generally Yes" is the answer to the implied question - if my serial number from the late 90's (approximately) is after the last one listed on the incomplete and not necessarily accurate charts, is is appropriate to assume the next year or so depending upon how close the number is to those listed? Would have been more helpful if I had said that first :dispirited:

Yes it probably would, assuming they even still have the records.
Last I heard the period including Corona and Tacoma was buried in storage at Fender Corporate headquarters in Scottsdale, and very poorly indexed.
Since Fender no longer owns the brand, why should they even bother?
They have no skin in that game.

Since CMG didn't own 'em then, why should they bother?
They have no skin in that game either, and have demonstrated little interest in supporting legacy builds.

:)

I probably need to release a tweak to the PostBot that reduces the importance of making a response in proportion to the age of the post. Or perhaps don't respond if the OP hasn't been active in 12 months.

That said it is always helpful to be reminded that Guild, no matter who the owner is, is in the business of selling guitars and answering historical questions puts no money in their pocket. The good will might have a monetary value but it doesn't have to.

This all makes me wonder about a different business model for history. We have all seen the people search sites that will vaguely describe what they have found and offer the details for a small payment. What would happen if the question "When and where was my <model? with <serial number> made?" was answered with "We know where your guitar was made and in which calendar the serial umber was assigned." For $5 we can send you that information.

Ok, I usually catch 'em but that one did get by me because posts 9-12 were all from the last couple of days but that the thread itself was started in '07.
"necrothread" was the term you coined long ago.

I shoulda got a clue from Graham's post, blame it on my increasingly constant "tunnel vision".

A-HA!
They DON'T have the info or they'd already be doing that.

Welcome to LTG. As GardMan said, Hans would have the exact info. As an interim info: He dated previously AK001530 as year 2000 and AK001937 as year 2001. So AK001850 could be indeed from 2001.
