So they all come with a "vintage gloss" finish which looks somehow satin but is not...

Meaning what, they cut down on the polishing steps to save cost? Make sense for a no frills series.

Canada .... brrr
I am curious about prices. The NH models scored high on affordability and competed with Asian built guitars. Let's see how low Yamaha will be willing to sell these.

Hmm... Not really, merlin... The NH Standard series was a significant savings, but was not competitive with the Asian-built GADs of the day. Honestly, I doubt Yamaha has anything to do with this at this point, but I can't say that with any certainty.

The whole finishing process is quite time-consuming... I'm sure they're doing whatever they can to build a lacquered guitar for less time (equating to less cost). That was pretty much the concept in New Hartford.

Thats pretty awesome news, I also just received my email from Guild today on the introduction of this new Standard series, coincidentally on the day Fed Ex is scheduled to deliver me a NOS F30Rce Standard from NH. o_O

And yea, that Pacific Burst is pretty. :)

Are they going to consolidate the D40 on the standard line and get rid of the traditional? Both appear on the website for now.
I also wonder if they will introduce a D50 Traditional?

"Celebrating Guild’s 70th anniversary, the new standard series heralds the greatest attributes of Guild’s history and rings in a new era of USA production."

man, seeing them up against the dreads really makes me appreciate how enormous that F jumbo body is.
Also, not super important, but:

Of all the names to misspell on Guild's web site ...

Prices on sweetwater below. Over 2K is still expensive to me, but it's pretty much in the pocket. It's funny that there is already a demo price available on the F-40.

I find it interesting that in the early days Guild charged a premium for blonde finishes, with the burst being the base price. Usually because they could use less than perfect woods and hide visual defects with the color.

Now it’s the burst that are charged extra.

Disappointed about African rather than Honduran mahogany, but I understand that supply is not the same as it used to be.

And have they just abandoned the F-30?
There's about 6 different versions of that body in the Westerly Collection. (Meaning I think they think they've got it covered)

No interest in imports. But they wouldn’t have my desired specs anyway, so I am definitely not their market.

Wow, if this is a Yamaha initiative, they're not wasting any time! Very promising
Yes, as soon as I saw the announcement I found myself wondering how much of this was due to Yamaha's acquisition of CMG.

For starts, just got their email today. I have to say I like the "Pacific Burst," sort of like the only sunburst that Martin
has actually gotten right (and attractive!).

But staying on the Martin-theme, and having been here before, "African Mahogany?" Com'on, man-up and say what it really is,
(like Martin with Sapele, et al) instead of hiding behind some made-up term. No real mahogany grows in Africa, though in deference
to Toto the "rains may fall there..." Say what it is, Khayla, Limba, Korina, whatever. Then, when you fall into a cache like rumour has that
Huss & Dalton just has, you can say what it really is and then charge a premium (o_O !!!) because you got the real goods.

That "striped" khayla or whatever is in fact very pretty, but it ain't mahogany.

Maybe this should go to ROTD thread
