I was looking for photos of something else and ran across these. Although I believe I've posted these before, I thought I'd post them again for the newer members. (And because I can!)

It's a long story I could tell you over a couple of cold ones but I let this one get away!

Still a little annoyed it's not mine!

:) That is one cool looking mando. Looks like you could cut yourself on those pointy accents. :)

I have a friend that plays a Mandolin in a Bluegrass band and he would buy that in a heart beat. Why, because he doesn't have a Guild Mandolin. That is one piece of beauty
And may not be but three or four known!

It's got a unique look, that's for sure.

That story sounds worthy of at least a couple cold ones! Sweet instrument; I am a mando player.

It reminds me of the Guild Studio guitar.

Interesting that it has the shield headstock inlay but absolutely no fingerboard inlays.

I really like mandolins in the two-point Jethro Burns (Gibson A-5) style. I’ve got a 1979 Ibanez copy that plays quite nicely. Those had an oval soundhole, but this Guild variation gives you F-holes and a bonus lower point - so cool!

Last time I saw my friend play back in the winter, he was playing the Gibson F5 Loar 1923--high $$ instrument.

This is the closest I'll ever get to your friend's F-5. It's a 1922 Loar-era 'A' model - one of Gibson's earliest examples with a truss rod & it has a lovely tone. There indeed is something special about the mandolins produced during Loar's time with the company.

Thanks Stu, it's one I truly cherish, both for it's tone & heritage.

You are playing, basically, a Century old piece of musical history. Don't suppose there is a sound track floating around?
