Got a line on a great looking JF-55 in sunburst. Anyone with any experience with these? Any input on a price range for a sale from an individual?

thanks old wise geezers... 8)

 I think you should send the ad and pictures to me....I'll let you know. Great guitar. Basically a new version of an F50R in my opinion. Fabulous condition?......$1400-$1750......just one dummy's opinion.

Well, these have been all over the place recently. I missed a couple awhile back for $850 & $950. Have seen several go around $1200. But finally made a deal on one last month from craigslist. After some post sale negotiating due to missing inlay, my final price was $890 delivered.

I saw a nice sunburst this past week & it made me wish I had waited...I just love a nice burst! But I'll be plenty happy with mine after some tune-up work.

This one looks in really nice shape, at least that is how the pics look. The seller is hinting at 2K. That is a little steep. Nothing on ebay completed sales, and only a couple of older elderly ads for reference. I was thinking around 1200-1300.

It's great, but sitting in the case until I can work on it. There's about a 1 inch piece of inlay missing around the sound hole, right at the seam in the top...where there also happens to be a crack which runs from the sound hole until it hits the internal bracing toward the bridge.

The reason it isn't getting played is the biggest deflation in the whole deal. Seems I picked the wrong time of year to have a guitar shipped to our northern climate. Aside from a major increase in finish checking during shipping, the fingerboard has also separated from the top of the guitar. There's no gap, but the glue joint has been compromised so I can stick a pick in & lift it about 2/3rds of the way around. So for my own peace of mind, it will stay in the case with a humidifier until I can remove the neck to make sure the rest of that joint hasn't gone south.

There is a sunburst JF-55 on ebay right now with about 16 hours left. Just over $1000 when I last looked.

:D Good thing you're a repair guy Don, I'd be freaking out! Can the fingerboard just be glued down? Have you done any crack cleating?

Sure, I could just glue the fingerboard back to the top of the guitar. But like I said...for my own peace of mind, it's coming off. If more of that joint has been compromised, I don't want a bigger repair down the road. There's also a pretty useless passive under saddle pickup installed, & when I remove it, there will be zero saddle on the bass side, so I'll tweak the angle slightly in the process.

Yeah, cleating cracks is no biggy on a flat top. Pretty interesting when working with an arch though.

That's my JF55 he's looking at. Yes, I lurk on several sites. I have seen JF55's go for over $2000 on ebay in months past, I have the link to one last August that went for $2071 (auction #280009432951). Probably as nice as mine (keep in mind we're talking about the rarer sunburst color). I recall one recently around Nov-Dec memory went for around $1875, still with minor blemishes. The ones that have been for sale very recently have not been perfect, and that one for sale now (despite being burst) is far from perfect. Mine is flawless. Period. And is the finest rippled top ever with flamey blue inlays all over. It has no equal and I have bought at least six of these in my lifetime. Man, I'm just about to talk myself out of selling it.

Busted!

I looked up the auction you mentioned, ad said it was new old stock, but didn't say whether or not it came with a warranty. That might account for the higher price.

Sent you an email and PM, Keith....

That's true. It was new old stock. I'd forgotten that actually. Looked like the bridge was lifting though from other pics I asked for. Anyway, I'll keep an eye out for your PM and e-mail. Haven't seen anything come through yet.
