This blonde beauty was left to me by a dear friend and I have been trying to get some info on it. It appears to me that Guild doesn't recognize Westerly Guilds. Can someone tell me anything about that? I am also trying to put some pics on here but that is not working for me for some reason.

This guitar has the best tone and is a dream to play and listen to.
I appreciate any info that I can get. I'll try to get some pics posted.

Get a free photobucket acount and post pics there, then you can post them here.
Also, post the serial number and there are MANY kind folks here that will chime in!
Guild is in transition, but believe me they "recognize" Westerly Guilds.

Guild model designations have been a little confusing over the years, but the guys here will get you sorted out in no time!
Welcome!

To what Retro said, I'll add a WELCOME TO LTG!
You've come to the right place for answers about all things Guild so sit tight....the cavalry will be here. :rugby:

**Would it by chance be a JF30 instead of a J30?

Not sure what you mean by "recognize" but Westerly Guilds are known far and wide. You can get the help you seek. Post a serial number and someone can help out with the year. Photos are a tad difficult to post. You must HOST elsewhere and then use the DIRECT link (ends in .jpg) and then use the "insert image" icon to paste it into... and then you're gold. Not easy but once you get the hang of it ... you're good.

Welcome to LTG, Ellie. This is a great place. You might like it here..... :encouragement:

Welcome Ellie!
I'm guessing, too, that what you have is a JF-30. One of our members has set up a great website full of resources on the Westerly Guild models. http://westerlyguildguitars.com
Of course, the resource for all things Guild is the esteemed Hans Moust, a member, who wrote the book on Guilds.

Yes Jeff, the serial # says JF30 but the label inside does not.

Yes, it is a JF-30. In case the pics do not show up below...the inside label says, J 30 A07 then the serial # says JF-30 0260 2-88

Yes, the JF-30 can be incredibly rich in tone.

I have a blonde '94 that's just sweet as can be.

Enjoy yours!

I've probably taken 20 or more guitars to my luthier over the years. Guilds and Martins. The ONLY one he has ever commented on sound-wise was my 1989 JF-30 in bright blue finish. "That is a really nice sounding guitar."

Hi Ellie, welcome aboard!
Guild was bought and sold several times over the years.
Fender owned them from 1995 until 2014 at which time they sold it to Cordoba Music Group.
I don't know how much production info they passed on to CMG but that's why CMG may not have all the info about past history and model specs, also they may simply have not had the opportunity to "absorb" the info into their own archives yet, while they're under pressure to get US production back up to full capacity.
JF30's were introduced in the mid-eighties and were in production all the way up to the early '00's in Corona CA.
There is an s/n guide on Guild's website ("History of my Guild"), and while even those records are known to be flawed, I suspect it'll be "close enough" for your purposes.
Otherwise our member Hans Moust can give you an exact build date from the s/n.
This site, a labor of love maintained by a member here, has a bit more info and specs for JF30's:
http://westerlyguildguitars.com/links.htm
EDIT: OOPS there I go posting before reading all other replies, apologies for redundant info.
BUT: I'm pretty sure I recall Hans mentioning those blue labels were used on guitars destined to be sold outside US, like Canada.
Might explain the slight variation from US labeling format.
In the US the color was normally a suffix on the model number, as in "JF-30 Bld" or "JF30-SB"
As for "Blonde" vs "Sunburst", structurally there's no difference, it's simply a matter of how the top was stained (or not, in the case of the "blonde" finish)

Sweet guitar! Mine is a blonde '92 and on my label it's JF30 bld (bld would designate blonde) as Al stated.
And my label is off-white, or sort of parchment colored.
Mine has the ser # on the back of the head-stock and "Made in USA" ...but not the date!

I hope Hans chimes in with what "J 30 A07" on a blue label indicates.
Looks like yours was stamped 2-88, and your serial number indicates 1988 as well. That's kinda cool!

And, as anyone will tell you, these are just awesome guitars!
What a dear friend indeed to leave you such a beautiful remembrance.

I'd guess that "J 30 A07" on the label is an in-house model designation that "escaped" and was inadvertently written on the label instead of the actual model name. It wouldn't be the first time we have seen that from Guild!

If the label is really blue (or is it just bad color balance in the pic?), I think it indicates that it was originally meant for export out of the US (at least I think that's what the blue label Guilds were!?!)...

What's the discoloration on the back of the headstock? I've seen the lacquer finish marred by a capo that had been left on a headstock for a long time, which is what this looks like, but I've never seen darkening like this, almost like it was burned.

I saw the mark on the back of the headstock too. I was thinking capo, tuner, some strange type of stand, or a synth material strap that was locked in the case with the guitar for a long time? No biggie, just a curiosity. Gorgeous guitar though!
