Wow, I just got the GAS... been wanting a D25 or similar, but my buddy, who also tours a lot in the same region, plays a D55 mainly... just like me. And he's got a D25 for a second guitar, so I didn't wanna have the same exact stuff as him.

So that had me looking at a D4... but they're so plain.

But this... this D17. How had this model eluded me so long? It's even got some white binding for visual flair! And, with the 'hog top, it should maximize the tonal difference available to me, since all of the 25's I'd been looking at were be spruce-topped.

I've gotta get one of these things!

With that said, did they ever make a 'hog dread with D55-type appointments?

Hey Ben,

you're a "bling guy", too? :)

Most people on this forum are far more knowledgeable than me about Guild models, but going by "the book", i.e. Hans' excellent work of reference, there was no bejeweled dread other than the D-55, at least until '77. I find it strange that they never made a "D-45" - or would that be a "D-44"?

When did Guild introduce the D-17? Does it have an arched back, and did Guild make a guitar like that (white binding etc.) with a spruce top? (Or would that be the D-25, minus the white binding?)

Cheers,

I've been keeping the guitar in its case in my closet - and noticed that everytime I opened my closet, it smelled like weed (maybe a good thing for some people  )
Anyways, the case is unbelievably old - and beat up - the latches are close to impossible to close.
I decided to pick up a brand new case today - and ended up getting the new SKB flight case at Guitar Center.
The weird thing about Guilds in general are that they don't seem to fit well in generic dreadnought cases.
I know that this has been posted all over forum, but it's actually really hard to find a good fitting case for a Guild dread.
The SKB came close, but still not a snug fit.
Oh well - anyways, I love my Guild - I've sold a couple Guilds, and regret selling all of them.
Unless I get a sudden urge of GAS, this Guild is staying with me.

"Oh, that's okay. You can just pad it with an old t-shirt."
That's what the dweeb at GC told me when I was shopping for a case for my daughter's hand-made custom axe.
"Hmm. I should just use a $2 t-shirt to protect her $2k guitar?" said I. "I think I'll keep shopping."
I'd like to find a case that adjusts somehow to the slight variances in guitar dimensions.

Joepa, My guess is that that is a reasonable price for a D-17... but probably not a steal. D-17s don't pop up that often on eBay... neither do their cousins, D-15s and D-16s. So, I'm basing this on the eBay selling prices for D-25s, which are more common model with similar build, which range from $500-700.

Hello Everyone. I am new to the forums, and to Guild guitars. I am thinking about getting this guitar, but I am having a hard time finding its value. Does anyone know a good way to price these guitars?

http://tucson.craigslist.org/msg/875179711.html

I've only come across two D-17s in my lifetime...
I found mine at a local pawnshop....

If you can negotiate with the seller, that is usually the best way to get a good price...see if he will let it go for around $500...to be honest, many sellers are working with buyers because of the tough market...

I've also owned a D-25, and even though they are similar in build, the D-17M is much harder to come by...
Also, I really like the tone coming from the mahogany top as opposed to spruce...
Mine is just beginning to open it - I'm guessing it was kept in its case most of its life...
