Hi,

I would really appreciate to know what do you think about the Seymour
Duncan D-Tar on D-55 or F-47.
A very serious german magazine (Akustik Gitarre - March/April 2008) made a review of
a D-55 (with D-Tar Wavelength), with so many superlatives that it is hard to believe in,
even for a Guild freak like me ("More Guild than that was never the case...")
Has any D-55 owner around here something to say about it ?
Thanks, and best regards !

Christian, honestly, I have yet to hear anything negative about the DTAR system except for the weight of it. On the other hand, not a lot of people have it. I think it was introduced in 2007 or possibly 2006????

The bigger point is that you're talking about the newer Tacoma Guilds, which are soon to become an extinct (and, I suspect, lamented) breed. Most of the D55s that I've heard about from Tacoma have gotten rave reviews.

I have no idea if the Connecticut switch-over will continue to include DTAR installs (when it occurs later this year).

The DTAR provides excellent performance. Greatest attribute, in my opinion, is the ease of swapping out the two 'AA' batteries.

The D55 is a heavy guitar; the DTAR makes it even heavier, especially in the lower bout. I'm not a big guy, so that, to me, is a negative. I know of a couple Central Texas artists with (free) promotional guitars who, due to the weight issue, have replaced DTARs with passive devices. http://www.terrihendrix.com/ & http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/music/a ... 88,00.html

My favorite Tacoma Built Guild is a D40 RH with Fishman preamp. Obviously a different guitar (hog vs RW), but I like the convenience and versatility of the Fishman on-board controls. The DTAR has volume and tone wheels (only) at the upper soundhole.
