If your knobs look like these, then they are original to the instrument:

Mr. Moust: I just bought a 1978 x-175 blond with these exact knobs on it -- I began to wonder if they were original to my newly acquired guitar. I've never seen any of these on a Guild archtop. Could you help me on this? Thanks!

Was offered on ebay by a seller "loreto1000" in Waukesha, Wisconsin in Sept 2019.

Thanks Ralf: Could be the same guitar -- just bought mine last week from a seller on Reverb in Des Moines Iowa. All the pics he sent me did not include the one you've posted. Same exact case candy with both guitars -- not surprising, I guess. Just looked spookily familiar. If the photo you posted is in fact of a different guitar than mine, then it's good visual documentation of what I'll call the "plain Jane" knobs. Thanks for your help!

Actually it is the same guitar indeed!

By the way, the Truss Rod cover was mounted upside down on it, hope you corrected this.

Compare the wood pattern, it's a 100% match:

And it came with the same case candy like in 2019:

And there are plenty of other examples with those knobs:

Well, now we really veered in the Bass section !!!

You are good at this -- quite the detective. As you have probably discovered the seller (Lawman's Guitars) did a refret on it. I don't really know anything about refretting a guitar, but if one has to adjust the truss rod I'd bet "Mr. Lawman" put the TR cover back on upside down. Thanks for pointing that out -- I think I can take care of that adjustment. I just discovered something else (that you may already know). Waukesha Wisconsin has a bedroom community/town named New Berlin. New Berlin was the headquarters of Faas Corporation (U.S. Music Corporation), owners of Guild from 1989-1995. Ironic. Thanks again.

Correct, New Berlin, 53151 in WI! Maybe the previous owner worked there. This would explain the good condition!
