Those of you getting ACOUSTIC GUITARS emails would be greeted with that beautiful ad atatched to their NOTES. Same ad as in this months mag........The GUILD shield HEADSTOCK over a red background, saying " Find out why players know Guild" and then " A tradition in TONE". VERY NICE to see the colors flying and the brand being promoted so well and tastefully. :D
LOOKING GOOD!!

SG, I stumbled across this on eBay last night, and thought it was really cool

Nice to know I have the same kind of bass (coming) that Jaco played for a time. Unfortunately, my friends and I witnessed a lot of Jaco's decline towards the end, and it was a really sad way for such an amazing talent to exit this world. :(

COOL for sure!! LOOK at that almighty chord he's fretting!!! and CONGRATS on that bass coming your way!!! MORE COOLNESS! Ill have to look up some info on Jaco, i dont know him at all that Im aware of..but Ill soon fix THAT! we live we learn! :D

Definitely bone up on Jaco. What an amazing talent he was. Towards the end he was wasted all the time, and trying to crash gigs of Jorma and some others in the Village back in the day. It was really sad, and ultimately what caused his death. Here's a good launching point.

Yep. Saw him once with Weather Report and once with Joni Mitchell at Berkeley Greek Theater. Lifetime memories..
SG: Do you remember Weather Report? Yeah, THAT guy! (Well actually I guess there was Miroslav Vitous too...but I'll always think of Jaco as the bassist)

I remember Jaco mostly from the stuff he did with Joni (which was amazing), but he had also started hanging around Jorma a lot (friend Chris has tapes to prove it) near the end. Bromberg as well IIRC. Easily one of the greatest bass players ever. I never knew he played a Guild either.

Jaco is probably the bassist that impressed me the most along with with Alembic Master, Stanley Clarke.
This guy (Jaco) was the Jeff Beck of bass, every time he played the bass, something magic happened, as Sandy says: an amazing talent.
He is sorely missed, and his later years are a sad testimony to the destructive nature of the "depression/substances" cocktail.....

Too lazy to search for posts but the Jaco/Guild connection has been discussed. He definitely appeared in Pilot advertising and there are some unsubstantiated claims that he participated in the design or specification of one or more Pilot models. I've also seen claims that while he definitely appeared in ads, he gigged with Pilots rarely, if at all. I suspect Jaco is worthy of a sidebar in Han's Volume II.

When Jaco (and I believe Pat Metheny) were side-manning for Joni Mitchell, I saw a clip of Jaco doing "Third Stone From The Sun" with himself through an Electro-Harmonix Memory Man.
Astounded me at the time.

He and Stanley Clark really raised the bar for bass in the early '70's.

The unfortunate fate of many great talents. Sigh.

Hey, SG, nice find on the new ad. Google search led me to this: is this it? http://www.brainyard.com/index.php/2010 ... n-tone-ad/

Yep Chaz. That ad is in the most recent issue of Acoustic Guitar magazine. It's great to see Guild back in the game, hopefully for good this time.
