I've never seen those on any of mine, but as you can see my list only travels so far. I think the rounded back Pat. Pend.s were used until mid 72 or 73 from what I've seen. Dreamlander's deluxe has them, and my S-90 has Sta-Tites. That's not necessarily the progression, but it is what I've noticed.

Shucks, I'm guessing nickel. They didn't have that blueish look that chrome has. I can report back after we jam this weekend with a definite. His computer is on the shaft and bouncing right now.

Darryl,

My 1971 F-50R has Grover Pat. Pend. tuners, but they have a rounded back and they are a gold color, not nickel or chrome. Just FYI.

My understanding from Hans' book is that they switched to Schaller tuners sometime in the '70s, but I'd have to look it up. :) I'm too lazy right now, just sitting here playing the F-50R after spending a few hours of quality time on her. I just got her today, and I'm loving it.

I have business associates in Central Massachusetts. Three-Finger Louie and Crunch Nagursky.

But seriously, you got me thinking that a thread on protecting guitars through security at home, at work, and in the car might be helpful. So I'm going to start one.

Well, you got me thinking too, Darryl. And I figured it out...

Pat Pend is the offspring of Juris Prudence and Optimus Prime.

OK, that was a little obscure. Y'know, the combination of law and invention... ;)
