Wow. What a fabulous instrument! This is the one that was in Norman's Rare Guitars that jp hooked me up with. Eternal thanks for that!
This guitar is damn near mint. A little tarnish here and there on the jack and toggle, but otherwise it looks and feels like a brand new guitar. I didn't even clean it before I took the pictures. Not sure of the year. AG00145x made in Westerly RI. Last serial I can find on the web is AG000937 for 1999. I'd guess 2001 for this guitar?
It's darker than most blonds I've seen. I like it - adds a lot of character. Here it is next to my blond X-170, which is what blond usually looks like to me:
It's been a long while since I've played a Starfire, and I was pleasantly surprised at the width of the neck. Very nice! I bit wider it seems than the X-170 which I'm now used to.
I recently played a $2700 Gibson dot reissue ES335 that was very impressive. I've played a lot of dog 335s, but this one was very nice. This Starfire is all the guitar that one was, and less than half the price. It is an absolute sin that Fender stopped producing these.
I have a matching '73 on its way. I can't imagine it being a better guitar than this. We'll see.
