So I bought the Gorgomyte fret and fingerboard cleaner, looked at some reviews, and this is what I found, and I quote;

This product has changed since my purchase of a few years ago. It used to have more cleaning agents on a chamois type material, which worked really well. The current product is more like oil on a thin cloth. Some of the great reviews are probably for the older "formula". You may like this product but it used to be much, much better.

Which one do I have? I haven't used it yet. Anyone here know anything about the change?

Ah, the old Gorgomyte Maneuver!

(Let’s see who gets the reference. :eagerness: )

(I’ve never used old or new, so I can’t offer anything else.)

As for Gorgomite, I agree - something changed. It still works for me, but it's not as wonderful as it used to be.

Think I'll use it on the fretwire, some reviews say it leaves a waxy feel/look on the fretboard.

Hard to keep it off of the fretboard, but then I follow up with bore oil anyway.

Miracle Cloth used to resemble Gorgomyte, as of a few years ago (I bought a package of each, which at this rate is looking like nearly a lifetime supply, because a little piece goes a long way).

Maybe try Miracle Cloth if you aren't happy with the current iteration of Gorgomyte?

Just to follow up on this product; It does everything it claims and my frets are like mirrors. I did follow with the oiling of the frets. My gosh though, where is all the black coming from, it can't be from the frets, it's just too much.
