Although I've had several Guilds, I've never bought a new one. I'd like to find a nice used D-40 Traditional in sunburst, but they seem to be pretty scarce.

So I might end up buying new. Can anyone recommend a good Guild dealer? I'd like it to be set up, and reasonable shipping would be nice.

Thanks!

Where are you located? That information would definitely help!

Here's two that I trust absolutely and are really good folks as well.

1.) Our own Tom Jacobs usually has some used Guilds on hand, though not sure about a D 40. He's in Florida and you can reach him at 321 301 46119

2.) Calido guitars in Texas is another high quality seller/Dealer, I've bought several instruments from him. He's at 979 236 0683

Of course, there are the old standards like Wilcutt in Kentucky, Elderly in Michigan, Gruhn in Tennessee, Carter Vintage also in tennessee, Daves in Wisconsin and many, many more. All high quality stores and stores you can trust.

I am in central Colorado.

Thanks, Richard. I like Dave's very much, but didn't see much for Guilds there. Will check again.

And there is this Richard - poster of this comment - I trust as much, if not more than any Guild dealer.

Wildwood Guitars in Louisville, CO is reputable. I bought my new Oxnard D-55E from them. They set it up perfectly and offered a free adjustment after I broke it in. They only offer a 2-day return policy though. They have a D-40 Traditional in stock! They historically offer a 10% discount if you pick up in store too.

Thanks, Mr. Gar! I should have checked Wildwood first thing. Great shop, I was there pre-pandemic and had a great visit that included a nice chat with the owner. That Guild you linked is a beauty; the top is spectacular! But I really have my heart set on the sunburst version.

Iirc, Guitar Center had a few used D-40s last time I looked. Have it shipped to the store nearest you, where you can accept or reject it on the spot - with the additional safety net of their return policy if you take it home. Enjoy the quest!

Indeed "it's the journey not the destination" is never more true than in the pursuit of a fine guitar!!

Well, I think that maybe I got lucky. A used one popped up on Reverb yesterday, being sold by Tone Shop Guitars in the Dallas area. I called and had a good conversation with a knowledgeable staffer, and bought it. Couldn't pass it up at the listed price, and I didn't even dicker!

Hope to have it next week, will post a NGD.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Tone Shop is a great shop KenL. One of the best in the Dallas area for sure. Glad you had a good experience.

You guys weren't kidding about Tone Shop. They were outstanding!

The guitar was said to be "Very Good" on the website, so I called for an in-hand rundown on dings, dents, and the like. Here's how that went:

"Any dings or dents?" "Nope, don't see any."
"Any scratches?" "No, none of those either."
"How about on the pickguard?" "No, it's real clean."
"Fret wear?" "Don't see any. " I don't think this thing has been played."
"Is the case in good shape?" "Yep, looks like new."
"Then why did you call it 'VG'?" "That's what we do. We under-rate the condition because it saves us arguments down the road."

Well, okay, that's unusual, but I guess it works for them.

NGD coming soon!

I have a friend who insists on a zoom conversation when he is selling a guitar. No mark is too insignificant to mention or show. He has never had an issue after a sale.

Hello

Swiss company Studer-ReVox - makers of worlds best reel-to-reel tape recordes had published specs that almost any cassette deck would outrun.

Difference was that Studer delivered under any circumstances - year after year. I have serviced many of their old tape recorders with original tape heads and retuned them to customers w all specs still better than originally promised.

How many 70-s cassette decks can beat that - or even come close.

I have strong feeling yhat those folks at that shop have solid principles.
