Pretty much a long shot but nothing to lose so..... Condition is always important but if the neck angle is good, there is fret life remaining and no unrepaired cracks etc., I'm very much ok with honest playwear.

I'd also consider a J 45 Std from the 90;s (same comment as above) or a Walnut J 45 Studio (same comments as above)

Not looking to drop premium cash here so affordability is important to me.

Are you haggling on the nice looking one on Reverb?

This J35 might be a better guitar...

Not interested in a Gibson compact jumbo J-165? 😁

I'm unfamiliar with that model and had to look it up. It's like a budget version of the J-45 in the same way the D-4 is a budget version of the D-25. Good luck with your hunt Richard, I hope you find one that suits you!

I've been dying to try one since twocorgis wrote up such glowing reports on them.

Haven't seen any

FWIW, a J45 Standard is going to cost you quite a bit more, and if the two that I've tried are any indication, the walnut J45 studio isn't in the same league with any of the three WM45s I've owned. I'm not selling the one I have now, because when I sold the previous two, I regretted it and went looking for another. The previous owner of the one I currently own upgraded it to stainless steel frets, and very "Gibsony" looking chrome Grovers with keystone buttons. This one's staying!

It's not just me. Ren Ferguson himself told me that they're the "smartest Gibson acoustic you can buy", and went on to tell me that most of them have better tops than their (sunburst) J45 counterparts. And that's right from the source!

Gibson revamped it’s lineup in 1999, with a turn towards more accurate historical models, along with releasing a number of new models which included the WM-45, WM-180, & WM-00. The early 2000s saw Bozeman producing a high percentage of stellar instruments, and imho they’re always worth a look. I’ve owned two nice WM-45s as well as a J-50 from that era, but the roundshoulder that totally swept me away is a 2002 J-45 Rosewood with ebony board & bridge, which I still own. I think the ‘90s are more hit & miss, but percentagewise, the early 2000s are a good bet.
