What would your recommendation for that be ? F-250CE, F-40. F-55? What about the jumbo juniors?
Anything with 3 digits like F-250 is made in China. Or anything with GAD. Also the Jumbo Juniors. They are not bad but not a F-40 or F-55 which are US made.
Best way to spot them is the truss rod cover. With truss rod cover = US made, without truss rod cover = China made.
Now there are a few people who added a truss rod cover to a GAD model to make it look like a US model, but there is no truss rod cavity under it...On the Chinese models you access the truss rod though the sound hole.

I was referring to the preceding comments about the JF-30. A used JF-30 wouldn’t require you to go a whole lot higher than that $650 figure. Seems like they’ve frequently been listed for around $1000-1200.

Whatever you choose, hope you get a good one!l

Alright, Thank's for the heads up - The naming convention also helps. Good to know what to look for!!!!!

In simpler times I would have said it's better to have a couple nicer guitars than 50 inexpensive ones. But the way things are going, if society goes to heck … those 50 low-cost guitars would make a lot more firewood for cooking and heating than 2 or 3 expensive ones. O.k., I'm kidding. There are so many nice American made Guilds out there. The F-40 is a nice choice. The asian made Jumbo Junior I played was ok but didn't seem quite a real guitar, more like a larger travel guitar. But you won't be sorry with a nice Guild.

Dang I like that a lot!

Sadly im in Dallas and currently Covid-19 free - so, 2 things prohibiting me from going to NYC haha.

I need to find a list of what american made guilds have been made so I know what to look for. I really like spruce on sitka but a lot of what im seeing is spruce on maple for the newer guilds. I just need to go play a bunch and see if the maple scratches the itch for me that rosewood does. I'd love to find an indian rosewood engleman spruce guild but I have a feeling i'd be paying 2, 3k for something like that.

Im sorry to put all these questions on you guys but you are the pro's and have so much more experience in this : I can only look up the current models - A lot of them are maple based and from what im reading, maple supresses, because of the density of the wood, reduces sustain and highlights the quality of the top.

I would love to get an idea of not current models, older models, that are quality and worth pursuing. I really prefer sitka and rosewood - Im not scared by like $1-2k prices, but I just cannot afford $3000 guitars right now. I am fine with 70's on guitars if they are deemed of high quality. I am having a hard time finding a definitive list that says:

Model #
Top Wood (hopefully solid)
Side and top (Hopefully Rosewood).

I hate to lean on you guys so much for all this info but you are the masters.. So i have a tax return coming in and a bunch of guitars im about to sell off. I've learned to shy away from GAD .. Im not apposed to taylors as well but I find that even though the 100ce's are laminate bodies and are in the $1000 range - where as the same guilds are higher quality and same or similar price ranges. I cannot afford 3000K guitars right now, but 1-2k is fine.. I dont need direct links unless you're willing to provide but model #'s that have proven quality would really help me a lot and I would appreciate a lot.

I look through the current lot and I see the F-40 and F-50 - but those of those are maple. Maybe a used D-55? Those are indian rosewood and floating around 2k. Im just scared of mahoghany because I want the resonance of rosewood. There is a Guild JF-30 BLD 1998 natural for $1075.

Thank you all for the help, it's appreciated. As one of the other members said, Regret is an expensive commodity.

In my opinion, in that price range you might enjoy a D-55 from either Tacoma or New Hartford. They are lighter than some Westerly D-55 examples, and very chimey / resonant.

Cool... Thanks for the heads up. All of those seem around the 2k range. I'll save a little and see what I can find.
