Can you explain “needs tuning”? I see ads on Facebook Marketplace that say that all the time. Would these people be keeping the guitar if only they could somehow get it tuned?
I'd assume that's someone who doesn't play. Maybe the instrument actually needs a setup and they don't know the right term; or maybe it just really is out of tune and they simply don't realize how easy tuning is.

There are people, no joke, who don't know how to tune and will take it back to the dealer to get tuned.

There is also the various jokes that end with the guitarist lamenting "but it was in tune when I bought it".

I once had a pawn shop owner stop me from tuning a guitar. He said his friend was coming in later to tune it. He was kind of a jerk about it so I didn’t bother to tell him it wasn’t going to stay in tune no matter how good his friend was.

Yes. And I've known people who even have one or more guitars and I've said, "This thing really needs new strings. It would sound so much better." and they're like, "Yeah, I'll have to break down and take it in."

Take it in? For new strings? Oh well.....

Er yeah I’m guilty of doing that.
(breaking low E, not dodgy stringing)
