Highest price ever here - $4 per gallon.
"According to the U.S. National Bureau of Economic Research, the Great Recession began in December 2007 and ended in June 2009. During that time, the national average surpassed $4 per gallon from June 8, 2008 to July 24, 2008, peaking on July 16 at $4.10 per gallon."

To be fair to the thread, besides lolling around, gas prices were widely known to be astronomically high in 08 for reasons best not discussed at all other than to say it was easily $4.50 in the PNW, much higher in Cali of course, well over $5 back then.

Sad stories of trucker paying $1000 to fill up.

Back then, the fuel was more worth stealing than any catalytic converters, and people we syphoning it in novel new ways, like cutting the filler hose on grandma's car, and coming back night after night with a hose to go down a reclosable flap .i .e Duct tape, people were wondering why their cars were always on empty and smelled like gas fumes.

In before the lock!

I can't wait for the day when cars run on moonbeams and fairy dust! Then we'll all have a wonderful Christmas.
