I realize they are dissimilar guitars, but would I be smart to trade my masterbilt for the GAD, assuming I like the GAD?

It's certainly a personal choice and you're the one to make it.
I had a similar decision to make when I had both a GAD-30 and a Masterbilt EF500M in hand. I chose to keep the Masterbilt because it just flat outperformed the GAD. Amazing sound and very easy to play! It also had an overall better 'feel' to it.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it,
Joe

Thanks for the response. I do like the EF500. I think I want to try a mahogany guitar eventually, which is another draw to the guild. But not sure about the body size/style.

Could you be more specific about what you mean when you say the masterbilt outperformed the guild?

For starters, the sound far surpassed that of the GAD, both highs and lows; it was more responsive with easier fingering; and the overall feel of the guitar in my hands and on my lap told me that I had stumbled onto a special guitar. I know that these are tough qualities to understand unless you have the two side by side, which I did. It was a pretty exhaustive comparison ---ask my wife how exhausted SHE was--- and I really wanted to prefer the GAD, given that I'm Guilded, but I couldn't do it.

Thanks for you input, Joe. I think you've helped me decide. I'll stick with the ef500 for now.

I haven't played a lot of GADs, but the several Masterbuilts I've played have been excellent guitars. The Daddy's Junky Music near me had one that I was really considering . . . until they let it dry out and crack. It was one of the best $400 (new) guitars I've ever played.

Yes, I've seen several Masterbilts at Guitar Center and Sam Ash that were new, but had cracks. Most were surface cracks in the finish only. I don't understand it. I do like the guitars, though.

I think I'll sit tight with my EF500. Maybe a GAD 30 will come my way and I can try it out.
