I'm ready to take the plunge and get a Guild 12 string. As much as I would love a new F412, the GAD F212 is more in my price range. The problem is, I haven't been able to find one to audition. Does anyone have experience with this instrument?

Re: GAD G212

How about a nice Westerly F 412, 73-74 for $1200, Grab it fast, its in San Diegeo, have The Blue Guitar music store ship it to you, if you get it. They will charge $30 to pack it properly, and ship it in a box. This is a good buy and an investment that a GAD won't give you. Merry Christmas Steffan

If the GAD F212 is anything like the GAD G212, possibly the string spacing may be an issue. For some reason, Guild's China factory set the string spacing closer together than what is normal on a 12 string guitar, on their G model.
The guitar flat picks OK with the factory spacing, but finger picking is difficult for medium to large fingers. (Guild mark also noticed this issue when He handled My G212.)

A new nut can be fashioned, which helps, but then You're looking at a Luthier charge of at least $100, hence, I would find one and play it first, before a purchase, to make sure that it suits Your style.

The GAD F212 has a slightly wider nut than the GAD G212, 3/4" vs. 11/16". Hopefully that will help.

GE, didn't try the GAD F212. Definitely enjoyed the GAD JF30-12...

Enjoy the hunt. By the way, these are good times to be buying. If you hunt around, you can get great deals on the used market especially. There've been some recent F212XL re-issues (late '90s) for prices equivalent or lower than the GADs.

Don't You mean 1-3/4" and 1-11/16" respectively?

Pulled the trigger on a new GAD F212 today. Got a fantastic price from PowerAlley! The only downside is they didn't have one with natural finish in stock, so they have to order one from the Guild warehouse. With the upcoming holiday, it will be 10-12 days before it arrives. I seriously considered ordering an F212E (with the Fishman Matrix pickup), but for less total dollars I can install a D-TAR Wave-Length, which should be a much better pickup.

Newbie warning!

Are you happy with the F212? I have the G212 (GAD) but am delighted with it. It's the nicest 12 I've ever had.

Take care,

Brian May
