Looks sweet!

I've really liked every GAD50 I've ever played better than my '79 D25. Looks like it's worth a shot. Good luck!

I don't know if you're in Chicago; I"m 1.5 hrs from the city. I attended the Villa Park guitar show about two years ago, plunked around the Guild D-25s and only found one that really sounded fabulous: beat up condition and the guy wanted a good buck for it. Disappointed, I decided to see what the Lombard Sam Ash was like. Never been to one before and was pleasantly surprised to find their variety. Bought a GAD 50 and it's simply fantastic. The only thing I'd change about it is the poly finish. But now the Tacoma DVs are out there. . . well worth considering, judging from what I saw at a music store in DeKalb.

just bought it . I absolutely love my DV4, and I knew that I wanted a rosewood back Guild for my next guitar...I know it's Chinese -made, but the reviews and comments on the forum have been so positive, I had to take the chance. What a price for so much guitar: $465.00 with HSC and shipping. Fingers crossed. Waiting at the porch for UPS!

Congratulations! You are now one of the many joining the ranks of GADaholics. I own two and I am contemplating a third. These guitars really feel good to play and have an outstanding timbre.

I am going to see which one my son absconds with when he goes off to college. My son and I are thoroughly delighted with ours. ENJOY! :D

Hoping someone's reading...so the package arrived at 4 this afternoon. I read the thread about checking, and the discussion about letting the guitar adjust to temperature changes. It was cold today, around 10F, so I've let the guitar rest in the sealed case. It's 6:45 now...any suggestions on how long before I finally get to open the case and take out my new baby? My place is humidified and around 72F. Thanks! (damn I wanna see her!)

Congratulations on your new instrument CWG: no good idea on the wait time but strongly suggest sometime tomorrow; if it's really in the case, it'll still be there! cj

When the case feels room temperature. Especially the latches!

Well, I finally opened the very nice tweed Guild case, and wow. The first thing that struck me was the high-gloss amber sunburst top. It's so different than the satin finish on my DV4 that it's going to take some getting used to...like two seconds. It's gorgeous. And...no glazing. Perfect! Tugged her out, and, whoa...another big difference. This dread is one solid and heavy guitar! Much heavier than the DV4. Upon inspection, the condition is flawless. No chips, cracks, smudges or blemishes at all. Lovely inlays on the neck and back and the real wood trim is just lovely. Frets are perfect. No sharp edges.

The strings, which I think are PB Mediums and obviously brand new, had been properly loosened for shipping, so I tuned her up and hit an E and Am. Oh boy. This baby is loud! Even with my thinnest pick, I felt like shushing her for the sake of the neighbors! I ran through the Jayhawks "Blue" which has a nice combination of open and barred chords. Great action up the neck. Easy to barre. Smooth slides up and down. The sound seems endless...incredible sustain. The bass seems punchier, crisper than the DV4...I think this is what I was looking for with the rosewood back. Mids and trebles seem similar to the DV4, but louder!

Then I fingerplucked Joni Mitchells "A Case of You." This song requires some delicacy and precision and the guitar responded like a set of crystal Christmas bells.

I'm very, very happy. This is an EBay deal that I think has turned out well. So yeah, I am now a new GADaholic. This 50 is just a fine guitar, and the QPR is just crazy! If anyone else is thinking about the GAD line, all I can say is that if mine is an accurate example, buy one. The value is mindboggling!

Yep, Dane, Blue is a pretty song. I never had the pleasure of seeing the Jayhawks live, but there are several recordings out there of them performing Blue and man are those harmonies tight, and the guitars just chime!

A question for all: any suggestions on a pickguard design that would compliment the amber sunburst? I have to say the clear one on the 50 just doesn't seem right...

I took the GAD-50 to guitar class this morning. Lots of oohs and aahs at its looks. Comments? "Man that guitar sounds great...and damn it sure is loud!"

My instructor: "You paid WHAT for it??!!"

I'm going to use the truss rod to give it a little relief, though. I'm hearing a few very slight buzzes now that the guitar has settled a bit...the action may actually be just a tad low...
